Suicide of Badminton Player Kavya, ACSA Demands Justice
Mangaluru: All College Student Association staged a protest in front of the Nehru Statue at Nehru Maidan on July 28, demanding justice to Kavya who was found hanging in Alva’s College campus on July 20.
Students gathered in front of the Nehru Statue and lit candles. They also observed a minute Silence for the soul of Kavya.
Addressing the protesters ACSA State Secretary Raghuveer Suterpete said, “It is a sad moment for all of us. We are here to demand justice to the family of Kavya who was studying in Alva’s college. In the Dakshina Kannada district, Kavya’s suicide is the fifth incident which has created suspicion. ACSA demands special probe in Kavya’s death case. Her family should be compensated. Kavya’s suicide should be taken seriously because this death has created suspicion and this is not the first time such kind of suicides have taken place in Dakshina Kannada. We demand justice to Kavya and punishment for the guilty.”
Addressing the protesters the State President of ACSA Dinakar Shetty said, “Some political sponsored students come on the streets when there is communal violence but when a student has committed suicide in a suspicious manner they maintain silence. In Kavya’s suicide case, Parents blame the college administration but the College administration rejected the allegations. In DK there are 16 student organizations when there is a real need, students do not protest. ABVP shouts slogans against a particular party. When there is communal violence or murder they protest but when a poor student commits suicide the same student organization maintains silence. Eight months ago a student in Alva’s College committed suicide and we had protested. But the police created a story that she committed suicide because she felt ashamed of stealing a mobile phone”.
Dinakar Shetty further said, “We appreciate the service of Alva’s in promoting our culture. But the college administration should think of why the physical director asked Kavya to come to the ground that at 4:30 am. We are not demanding to hand over the case to the CBI or CID because we believe in Dakshina Kannada police. We demand the Physical director to undergo a Lie Detector Test. Kavya’s parents should be given a compensation of Rs 25 lakh. If there is a delay in giving justice in this case, we will call for All college bandh on August 19. We want our students to be safe in their respective schools and colleges”.
Dhanush Shetty, Veekshith Shetty, Siddarth, Sujith and others were also present.
