Muslim community takes leadership to get Hindu Girl Married in Kaup

Udupi: The Muslim Community residing in Kaup has set an example by helping a poor Hindu girl by assisting her to get married. Divya, a resident of Fakirnakatte, Kaup had lost her parents in her childhood. She was living with her aunt Mohini. Because of poverty, her marriage was delayed. Kairunissa who is Divya’s neighbour introduced her to Manjunath a resident of Paniyoor, Uchila. Both being of poor background decided to get married at the Registrars office. Kairunissa knowing of Divya’s aunt’s wish of getting her married in a grand function, expressed her desire to social worker and former gram panchayat president of Mallar, Muhammed Sadik Dinar of helping Divya by arranging her marriage in a grand way. Muhammed Sadik too promised Kairunissa of holding Divya’s marriage reception in his house.

Muhammed Sadik wanted the villagers to attend Divya’s marriage and so, expressed his desire with his friends Laftullah Rehman, Leeladhar Shetty, Nazeer Ahmed, Sudhakar Shetty, Shafi Ahmed, Diwakar Shetty and others. All the friends decided to hold Divya’s marriage reception in a hall instead of holding it at Sadik’s house. The owners of Kushala Shekar Shetty Hall came forward to host the wedding reception of Divya and Manjunath in their hall free of cost. The members of the Unity Association sponsored jewellery for Divya. The Muslim community of Fakirnakatte organised the Mehendi programme at their cost. The rituals were held at the Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple and later the reception was held at the Kushala Shekar Shetty hall.

Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake, Kaup TMC EO Rayappa, Arun Shetty Padur and others attended the wedding reception.

Relatives of Divya said that they had thought of limiting their marriage to the registrar’s office, but the Muslim community and other like-minded people came forward to help them in holding Divya’s marriage in a grand manner. This is an example, that there are good people in this society who come forward to help the poor in their needs.

The highly commendable act of compassion. This is the way of peace and harmony. Hearty congratulations. GOD’s blessings be upon the Good Samaritans.
