Got Garbage! Attavar Area on the Verge of ‘Swachh Mangaluru’ Abuse?
Got Garbage! Attavar Area on the Verge of ‘Swachh Mangaluru’ Abuse? The following information is for the kind perusal of Attavar/Mangaladevi Area Wards MCC Corporators- and also the MCC Mayor and other MCC Officials to look into the pathetic scenes of Garbage that has lined up the Mangaladevi-Attavar stretch of Road. There could be other City Roads just like this one scattered with garbage- but right now let’s concrete on this road first- and then check into other later. With all this filth/garbage seen around the City, Is this what we call “Swachh Mangaluru” in “Smart City”?
Mangaluru: On 2 October 2014, just months into his job as prime minister, Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission, the most ambitious cleanliness campaign in Indian history. Not by coincidence, this was the very date of the birth anniversary of Mohandas Gandhi. Modi, in dramatic style, appeared before a battery of cameras to sweep the courtyard of a police station in a Dalit residential colony in central Delhi. “A clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his one-hundred-and-fiftieth birth anniversary in 2019,” he said, promising to transform sanitation and waste management in the country by that day.
Since the launch, Modi has put enormous effort into making the Swachh Bharat Mission a flagship programme of his rule. In the third year since its launch, PM’s initiative has been carried forward and promoted by various organizations, Education Institutions, Religious Institutions, Ashrams/Maths- and locally here Mangaluru, Ramakrishna Mission has played a vital role in the Swachh Bharath/Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan- since 2015, and today the Mission launched their 4th Phase of this Campaign, with determination and commitment to make Mangaluru Cleaner than it was during their 3rd phase of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan.
But sadly, the citizens of Mangaluru seem like they are are not appreciating the cleanliness done and also the awareness of Clean environment being spread by Ramakrishna Math and the volunteers who are associated with the Math. Since two and half years, after Ramakrishna Mission took the initiative of making Mangaluru a Clean City, they have given this City an “EXTREME MAKEOVER” in many areas of the City, either by painting dilapidated bus shelters/walls/street signs etc etc; sweeping streets; cleaning garbage; pulling outgrown weeds/grass etc- but once this campaign of Ramakrishna Math ceases at the end of the year’s project- we see garbage, painted walls being spoiled with paan spit; or posters being pasted on the walls etc. But why are some people of Mangaluru so IGNORANT?
Having said that, this morning, 3 November after attending the Swachhata Abhiyana: Phase 4 of Ramakrishna Mission at their Math located at Mangaldevi-Mangaluru, and while heading back home on my two-wheeler along the Mangaladevi-Attavar route towards Wenlock Hospital, I was shocked to see garbage piled up at various locations throughout the stretch of the said road. The first thing that struck my mind- What is the area corporator/corporators of these Wards doing? Don’t they have the slightest concern towards “Swachh Mangaluru? How come Mangaluru City Corporation has not taken any action of this open garbage dumping along this Mangaladevi- Attavar Road. The pictures published in this article will speak more than words can do, as to what this Attavar stretch of Road looks like!
In conclusion, even though with PM Modi and his government launching a mission called, “Swacch Bharat”, where our PM took broom for seconds, so did big people who would never know how to catch a broom in a lifetime- and even though the Swamis and Volunteers of Ramakrishna launching already three “Swachh Abhiyan”- some of Kudla roads are DIRTY again. But on the other hand, if the streets are dirty again, there are reasons, one of them- there aren’t enough garbage bins to throw garbage, and worse, no public toilets, and then you are forced to dirty up the place, it could be citizens mistake, and in the same time, government’s and MCC’s too for not providing better facilities.
We need more than some media campaign, we need some real groundwork being done from the government and MCC. You want me to not litter, well then provide me garbage bins, you don’t want me to pee on the roadside, well have public toilets installed etc etc. Well, while Ramakrishna Mission volunteers and rest of the citizens are trying to keep city clean, the government and especially MCC should also cooperate in providing enough dustbins/garbage bins and also enough toilets. The govt officials should also join hands with the volunteers and note how the Swacch Bharath/Swachh Mangaluru campaign is progressing. Hoping to see the Attavar-Mangaldevi Area Road CLEANED at the earliest by MCC-if not probably the Volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission have to do the job, when their Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan Kicks off this Sunday, 5 November.
Why Media is afraid to Publish the name of Corporator of the filthy area. Let them face the Public and let NRI World know it through Media of Communication, how clean is their Motherland… Thanks to Mr Alfie and Mangalorean.com
“MCC Aiming 1st Rank In Swachh Survekshan 2018, Public Participation Requested”- Best of LUCK with this kind of mess reported by the author above. MCC reaching No 1- what a JOKE?
Plz forward the article to the Mayor and Commissioner- and they are trying to fine people for littering- one more money making scheme for corrupt officials and police.
And they are talking about making Mangaluru on top among the cleanest city in the nation- are our politicians hooked on stupidity or what? Let them visit the vicinity around Alake- Barke- I will show them how Swachh Mangaluru is ignored- garbage is everywhere-best of luck for trying to Mangaluru the cleanest. Be strict and fine for littering without any corruption- then only our city will be the cleanest
