Mangaluru: A 37-year-old Naveed succumbed to stab wounds at KMC hospital on May 10, Naveed was stabbed by a guest at the Holy communion function at Shirva on May 5.

According to sources, Naveed was attending a Holy communion function where Anthony John D’Souza was also a guest. After sometime Anthony had a altercation with the catering staff, Naveed intervened and stopped the fight. Anthony immediately went home and came back armed with a knife and stabbed Naveed.

Naveed was rushed to the hospital and his condition was said to be critical. It is learnt that Anthony had the habit of getting into fights during functions. In a similar case Anthony was arrested sometime back and released on bail.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Naveed’s brother Waheed said, “My brother married a Catholic girl and on May 5, he went to Shirva to attend a Holy communion function of his wife’s brother-in-law’s nephew. When the party was going on, one Anthony John entered the hall and got into an argument with the catering staff. Naveed intervened and stopped the fight. Raged by Naveed’s intervention Anthony brought a knife and stabbed Naveed. Naveed was rushed to the Manipal hospital with severe stab wounds. He was later shifted to KMC hospital Jyothi. On May 10, at 10:30 PM he breathed his last”.
Anthony was arrested on May 5 by the Shirva police. He has now been charged in the murder case under section 307 IPC.
