‘Stop Dancing Instead Solve Civic Issues’-Opposition Members tell Mayor
Mangaluru: OMG- last time at the MCC Council Meeting I was confused whether I was at the MCC Council Meeting Hall or at the Central Fish Market? The noise and behaviour of the elected MCC corporators and opposition members was very unruly and noisy, it was simply an ugly scene to watch and listen to these so-called councilors yelling at each other over the microphone- and the helpless Mayor had to convince and pacify these “Men” and “Women” to calm down and sit calmly in their seats, and behave like councilors and not……?? But today’s MCC Council meeting was much much worse than last time- it was a combination of scenes that you experience at the Fish Market, Veg Market and Meat Market- Yelling, Arguing, Booing, Desk Banging, etc etc- truly unbelievable that people who voted and put them into power act in such a manner.
At one point MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil even said to the opposition members-“STOP ACTING LIKE KIDS?”- which raised the temper of the opposition even more, due to the remarks passed by the Mayor comparing them to kids, and demanded an apology- for which the strong and daring Mayor clarified that she never called them kids, but requested them not to act like kids- there’s a difference, she proved. And the opposition lost their stand on this silly “Kids” issue? With such kind of restless and arrogance going on between the opposition and Mayor’s team, I think a short course on “Anger Management” will probably solve the CRISIS of HUMAN BEHAVIOUR?
Yes, it was once again MCC Council Meeting held at the Council Hall today-Tuesday, 28 November at 10 am. And basically only a couple of issues were discussed, among which were the Mayor’s dancing practice for the forthcoming “Corporation Day” to be held on 8 December at Townhall-Mangaluru- while the other as always, was about Antony Waste Management Cell Pvt Ltd. not doing their job right, and about the constant strikes by the pourakarmikas. The opposition members raising their voices alleged that Mayor Kavitha Sanil was seen practicing dancing for her performance for the forthcoming Corporation Day event during business hours, instead of her being at her office and solving civic issues faced by the citizens of Mangaluru. Tit for tat, losing her temper Mayor Kavitha blasted at the opposition members saying that she never used her working hours for the dance classes, instead she practiced dancing only late evenings.
There was an argument between the opposition and Mayor on this silly “DANCE” issue for quite some time- and even in spite of repeated requests made by the Mayor to these opposition members to get back to their seats, but all her efforts were in vain. Some of them even walked closer to Mayor’s desk but were convinced by MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer. The meeting was stalled for quite some time- and after a while, the opposition members cooled down a bit, and returned back to their original seats. Then came yet another argument from both sides, about the improper and negligent work done by the management of Antony Waste Management. The members complained that the workers of this garbage disposal company are not collecting the garbage at a scheduled time- they do their garbage collecting rounds according to their timing and wish.
One member of the opposition said that even after residents have constantly complained about the improper and incomplete work of the waste disposable company, they still repeat the same mistakes again and again. When there are complaints about the grass being grown big in many areas, the company gives excuses that they are lacking on grass cutting machines, and are waiting for the new machines to come in. But opposition member Roopa D Bangera said that if that is the case, how come all the grass cutting machines are put into use to trim/cut grass during a CM or other VIP’s visit. This is all games played by the garbage company and MCC. Both are putting blame on each other- and in between the residents are the ones who will suffer. She also noted that garbage collectors have gone on strike many times, due to non-payment of their salary in time- and seems like this will never stop, unless MCC makes proper payments to the garbage disposal company so that they can pay their labourers in time, and avoid all this mess.
In response to all the complaints pertaining to Antony Waste Management Co, Mayor Kavitha and Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that they have discussed these issues with the owner of Antony waste, and explained all the inconveniences and hardships faced due to carelessness of the company, for which they have agreed to rectify all the issues in the nearest future. She said that complete settlement of pending amount has been done until September 2017, the only pending amount is for the month of October 2017, which will be deposited into their account soon. The Mayor was not happy with the officials of Antony Waste Management giving statements to media stating that MCC owes nearly Rs 36 crores, which is not true. “The amount we have kept pending is due to certain reasons, where the Waste company had violated some terms and condition- and that amount is under arbitration. There will be meeting between MCC officials and Waste Management Co in the nearest future to settle this ongoing protests by Pourakarmikas and other drawbacks,” added Mayor.
The Mayor also came down harsh on all the heads of the MCC departments and urged them to concentrate on their work and do their job right, and that in the next meeting she doesn’t want to hear any complaints of MCC dept officials not doing their work right. The MCC officials agreed to their bosses advise and promised to set things right at the earliest. Hope so?
MCC Meetings are like Cricket matches where opposite sides are screaming at each other. Did anyone ever seen or heard assistant Mayor talking or moving. Few meetings I have attended but I have not seen any movement from Him but glaring to the wild show of some of the Corrupt Corporators.
