Don’t discriminate against Sunny Leone, HC tells cops

Bengaluru, (DHNS): The high court set a December 25 deadline for the police to decide whether Bollywood actor Sunny Leone could perform in the city on December 31.

On Thursday, Justice B Veerappa was hearing a petition filed by Bhavya H S , proprietor of Time Creations, organisers of a New Year’s Eve show featuring Sunny and other artistes.

Bhavya had approached the court seeking permission to host Sunny Night, a dance-and-music event, at White Orchid Convention Centre, Manyata Tech Park.

The show has run into rough weather, with Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy refusing permission for it.

Senior policemen told DH they had enough and more on their hands on New Year’s Eve, and were in no position to control any crowd that might gather for a glimpse of the former porn star.

On Thursday, the police told the court they had sought clarifications from the organisers. They promised to consider the application after the clarifications were received.

The petitioner’s counsel said the clarifications would be provided within a day.

He told the court the police had granted permission for 50 similar events across the city, but denied permission for the Sunny Leone show.

A letter seeking permission had been given to the police on December 1 but had not been considered till now, he said.

The judge wanted to know why the police were discriminating against one person while granting permission to others.

He sought a list of clubs granted permission. “You can’t discriminate against one person,” he told the police.

The judge dismissed the petition but said Time Creations could approach the court again if the police rejected permission for the show.
