SP Sudheer Clarifies on News of ‘Police Consuming Liquor in Station Goes Viral’

Mangaluru: The SP of Dakshina Kannada Sudheer Reddy clarified on the news published on some media about a ‘police constable consuming liquor in the police station goes viral’ on December 29.

A preliminary inquiry was conducted and the following facts were found from the inquiry. The photo shown in the news and social media was clicked on October 11, 2017. The liquor bottle was brought to the station by Nicholas on his birthday on October 11, to be taken to his quarters to celebrate his birthday.

Nicholas had kept the liquor bottle on the table, at the same time another constable was on duty sitting at his place near the table. At that time someone had clicked the photograph portraying the police to be consuming liquor in the station. But the fact was, Nicholas had taken that bottle to his quarters on the same day and no police had consumed liquor in the police station. Another constable Danny had collected the photograph and posted it to defame the innocent constable.

Bringing a liquor bottle to the station as well as trying to defame the innocent without bringing it to the knowledge of Seniors is a crime and acts of indiscipline. We will take disciplinary action against both of them and also a detailed inquiry will be done.

Honnappa Gowda and Lawrence who were portrayed in bad light in media were doing their duty and are found to be innocent. Some malafide intention is found in publishing a photo which was clicked in October. We will now initiate a detailed inquiry to reveal the truth.

The innocent constables are permitted to take legal action against those who tried to defame and malign them.
