Mangaluru: The annual Eucharistic procession of the Mangalore Catholic diocese began from the Milagres church to Rosario Cathedral here on January 7.

Prior to the procession at 3:30 pm, Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza celebrated the solemn Mass along with a large number of priests of the diocese and a huge gathering of the faithful.

The procession led by the Bishop will be followed by the adoration at the Rosario Cathedral. The procession will culminate at the Rosario Cathedral grounds.

The parish priests and individual representatives who have done the highest collection from the parish for the diocese were honoured by the Bishop with mementos.

Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza unveiled the Logo of the Year of Rosary to mark 450 years of the existence of Rosario Cathedral. Addressing the faithful, Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza said, “This is the 50th year of the Eucharistic procession which was started by Bishop Basil D’Souza and I have been taking part in this procession from the past 40 years. The annual Eucharistic procession is an occasion to publicly acknowledge and Honour Jesus as the Saviour of Mankind and highlight/focus on His Most Important Commandment “Love God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind and Love Your Neighbour as Thyself” IN MY view THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT OCCASION FOR HONORING PERSONS WHO HAVE DONE HIGHEST (FINANCIAL) COLLECTION FOR THE TREASURY OF THE DIOCESE as it distracts FOCUS FROM THE SPIRITUAL DIMENSION, THE SANCTITY AND SOLEMNITY OF THE OCCASION. I won’t be surprised if I turn out to be a voice in the wilderness… Read more »
