We Welcome Haj Subsidy Cancellation by NDA Govt, Loss for Air India – U T Khader

Mangaluru: “We welcome the move of the government to end the subsidy for the Haj pilgrims. The Haj pilgrimage is compulsory for those who are financially stable. If any Muslim would like to go on the Haj pilgrimage he will arrange money anyway and go. Through the Haj subsidy, the Air India company was benefitting and not the Haj pilgrims. By giving Haj Subsidy the government had restricted the pilgrims to travel only by Air India flight, now the Haj Pilgrims can travel by any cheaper flight”, said the minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on January 17.

Addressing the mediapersons U T Khader said, “The policy was drafted in 2012 by the Supreme court asking the centre to abolish it by 2022 by deducting 10% every year but the centre has ended the Haj subsidy now, we don’t know if the centre can take a decision to end the subsidy which the Supreme court had drafted till 2022. Air India was charging up to Rs 35000 fare charges but now tickets are available for a cheaper price in other flights. We don’t accept the reason for the withdrawal of the subsidy that the funds are being reserved for the empowerment of Minorities without appeasement.

U T Khader further said, “The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Karnataka State received “Best Performing State” award. It is the co-operation and support from the Chief Minister and I would like to thank CM Siddaramaiah for his wholehearted support. I would also like to thank the Revenue department since it is the joint effort of the Revenue and food department to perform better.”

When asked about the murder of Target Ilyas, Khader said, “Police are taking action and soon the accused will be arrested. It is astonishing that the BJP has as minority cell. I do not want anyone to play politics in any of the murders since the police are capable of nabbing the accused in any murder case.”

AICC Secretary, Spokesperson and Incharge Karnataka state Madhu Yaskhi Goud and others were also present.

Khaderka, why CONgress did not cancel the subsidy in that case, even though SC has ruled in 2012 that it should be abolished.
