Udupi Dist Administration gives Rousing Welcome to Commonwealth Silver Medallist Gururaja
Udupi: P Gururaja, weighlifter from Kundapur of Udupi district who won the silver medal in the men’s 56 kg final with a total lift of 249 kg at the recently held Commonwealth Games in South Africa, received a rousing welcome by the Udupi district administration on Thursday, April 19.
On behalf of Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis the district deputy director for sports and youth service Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty welcomed Gururaja at the Mangaluru International airport. Thereafter he was taken in a special convoy of Government cars to the Udupi deputy commissioner’s office, Manipal.
At the deputy commissioner’s court hall deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis along with Shivandda Kapasi CEO Zilla Panchayat, Anuradha additional DC felicitated P Gururaja with a shawl, Mysuru Peta, Garland, fruits and memento. Later the district level deputy directors of various departments felicitated Gururaja with garlands.
On the occasion deputy commissioner, Prinayka Mary Francis announced P Gururaja as Brand Ambassador for Election awareness in Udupi district.
Speaking on the occasion Priyanaka Mary and Shivanada Kapasi said that Gururaja made Udupians proud after winning a silver medal in the men’s 56 kg final with a total lift of 249 kg at the recently held Commonwealth Games in South Africa.
