‘People Doing Activities at Midnight are Thieves, So Is PM Modi & His Team’- Congress Party during Protest

Mangaluru: Raising loud slogans like “Dikkara Dikkara.. Narendra Modige Dikkara”; “Down Down BJP Government”; “Mosa Mosa..Nambidavarige Mosa..Namo Namo..”; “Modi Sarkara, Bogaluva Sarkara”; and many more by Congress party members of Mangaluru South Congress Constituency who had held protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of DK district on Thursday November 2, raising their voices against the removal of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director by the union government. For the last few days, the CBI has been in the midst of unprecedented infighting between Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana, who has also been asked to go on leave.

The Congress in the past has on the attack, criticizing the Modi government for using the CBI to dig up old cases against opposition leaders instead of letting the agency act independently. It said that the CBI had become a tool for the government to fulfill its political purposes. Following the Narendra Modi government’s dramatic decision to divest Alok Verma of his duties as the CBI director on Wednesday, congress leaders during the protest attacked the Centre for allegedly undermining the independence of India’s top investigation agency.

Addressing the protesters former MLA J R Lobo said, ” Looks like PM Narendra Modi is not having faith having any faith in the constitutional rights and laws. PM Modi seeks to achieve surreptitiously and clandestinely what he can’t do directly to sack the CBI director. Habitual and perpetual misuse of CBI by Modi government and BJP to tamper fair investigation of serious criminal cases is the reason for this unfathomable mess. PM Modi has demonstrated the true colour of his infamous ‘Modi Made Gujarat Model’ by this mugging of CBI. By attacking and removing agencies like CBI, Lok Sabha, Election Commission of India and few others, PM thinks he can do it through dictatorship. His move has completely damaged the CBI’s credibility and I wonde if Alok Verma had been sacked for his interest in probing the alleged Rafale scam. And the funny part is that PM passed the order for CBI Director’s removal at midnight on October 24, and immediately appointed an interim director. This is total disregard and insult to our constitution,”.

Also speaking MLC Ivan D’souza said “Modi government buries the ‘last nail’ into the independence of CBI. Systematic dismantling and denigrating of CBI is now complete. Once a premier investigating agency, PM ensures that CBI’s integrity, credibility and reliability is ‘buried and dead’. Has the CBI director been sacked for his keenness to probe the layers of corruption in Rafale scam. Isn’t the rest a shoddy cover-up,” he questioned the prime minister. “If the Central govt doesn’t trust our CBI, how are we going to solve serious crime cases. Evert time a murder of a saffron activist or BJP party murder takes place, they want the case to be handed over to the CBI. But now they are against CBI and sacking the good people in the CBI. Isn’t it a double standard that BJP is playing”.

“We know Modi has a big financial back up by the Ambani’s, and even our PM went to France along with the Ambani’s to sign up a air crafts deal worth millions. Modi has ruled us for nearly four and a half years, we are not seeing any Achha Din coming our way nor we are seeing any progress, other than the blunder he did having demonetization. That’s it, nothing else! Our state government has given more loans to the farmers than the BJP govt. Look at the Kankanady flyover bridge, our MP and the Central govt can’t even complete it for the last eight years. Is this a central government that we want? questioned Ivan.

Corporator Vinayaraj speaking said, “Modi is only supporting big corporate companies, because he gets back in lump sum. Just because CBI is playing an important role in the Rafale scam, it was Modi’s tactics to sack the CBI director, which is totally unconstitutional. Modi promised to bring back crores of black money stocked in foreign countries, and promised to deposit few thousands in Indian citizens bank accounts, but what happened? He promised to bring back Vijaya Mallya to India and bring justice to all the people who worked for Mallay- but what happened? This is a corrupt central govt, and no doubt, PM Modis is a thief. PM Modi doesn’t plan any serious activities during day, he does it at midnight or during wee hours. Sacking of CBI director was done at midnight. Seems like Modi’s govt doesn’t believe in Indian laws and rights- they are taking law into their own hands and making wrong decisions”.

Congress leader Kallige Tharanth Shetty also speaking said, “There is a saying in Tulu that any person doing activities past midnight are thieves- and here we have our PM Modi who took the decision at midnight to sack CBI Director-don’t you think that he is a thief. PM’s team barged into CBI office at midnight and got into action, involving removing of CBI director and other concerned officials. Looks like Modi govt is not following Indian constitution laws and rights. They are doing their own way as dictators. What a corrupt govt is leading us, makes us feel ashamed. I urge that the supreme court interferes in this matter and bring justice to the CBI director and his office”.

Former MLA from Puttur Shakuntala Shetty, Corporators Sabitha Misquith, Naveen D’souza, Praveen Chandra Alva and Asha D Silva, Congress leader Ibrahim Kodijal, Congress Youth president Mithun Rai, Congress leader Harish Kumar were among many others joined in the protest.
