Account-holder Returns Cash Uncollected from ATM Kiosk
Udupi: When Y H Subrahmanyam from Bengaluru walked into the ATM kiosk attached to the Padubidri branch of Canara Bank around 7-35 pm on May 18, there was a surprise in store for him.
Before he could withdraw money from the machine, he found a sum of Rs 1,000 and a printout already lying thereon. After his own transaction, Subrahmanyam passed on the uncollected amount to a reporter of a prominent daily for further action.
The journalist, in turn, handed it over to the manager of Canara Bank, Padubidri. Obviously, in the case of the immediate past withdrawal, the cash may have been ejected late. After waiting for some time, the customer appears to have left the kiosk disappointed and frustrated.
The Padubidri bank staff found that the person who left behind the amount held his account in another branch of the bank. Since the account number, for the sake of security, is not printed in full but only mentioned with a set of ‘x’ marks followed by last digits, it was not possible for them to identify the account-holder. However, the ATM cell has been informed.
In the meantime, the person who had made the earlier withdrawal has been asked to contact the Padubidri branch of Canara Bank.
