After receiving the memorandum, Commissioner Chandra Sekhar assured to investigate the incident. He also directed ACP Uday Nayak to investigate the incident. In the evening, the investigation officer ACP Uday Nayak assured to do justice to the victim.

One of the members of Parivarthan, Zoya speaking to Mangalorean.com said, “On September 29, at around 9:30 pm, Sandhya and I were waiting near the Pumpwell Circle to go back to Kuloor by truck. When we were waiting, three policemen – who came on a PCR – took both of us to the side of the road and started to beat me. Sandhya requested the police to stop beating as we are waiting for the vehicle to go back to Kuloor, but they did not stop and started to beat me with the lathi. Sandhya being a diabetic, ran away from the spot and got injured in the leg.”

Parivarthan member Simran said, “Because we do sex work, many girls are safe on the road today. Why are the police harassing us? Our parents do not want to keep us in the house nor is anyone ready to employ us. To live, we have no choice but to beg and do sex work. Our Parivarthan Charitable trust was just inaugurated last month. Until we get some facilities from the government, get employment and learn some skills like tailoring, etc., we will have to beg for a living. If we do anything wrong, you can punish us. But when we are waiting for transport, why are they beating us? Do the police beat everyone who waits for the bus?” she questioned.

“We are also human beings and need money to lead our lives. People still look at us in a strange way, which should change. If we get a job, we are ready to do it. Last month too, one of our members was assaulted by the police. If the custodians of law and order also harass us, how will we live?” questioned Nayana.

Vice President Sandhya, Treasurer Srinidhi, Zoya, Zarina, Arundhathi, Sandhya K and others were also present.
