Bantwal: When most of the times stories of autorickshaw drivers cheating passengers by taking them for a ride on longer circuits or overcharging are being heard, occasionally one can come across instances of great honesty also .
There have been cases when some drivers have gone out of their way, sacrificing their precious earning time, to see to it that things found left behind are handed back to the owners.
In such an incident, Sadashiva Prabhu of Narsikumer, who runs a rickshaw in Punjalkatte town, set an example to others by returning a large amount of cash which had been lost by its owner.
On May 5, when he was walking from the rickshaw park towards a shop, he found a paper packet on the road. He picked it up, returned to the rickshaw and checked the contents. It contained Rs 1.50 lakh in cash.
Luckily for the owner, a bank passbook also was found with it. Based on the details, Prabhu began his search for the owner. In the meantime, Ravindra Poojary of Puriya, who had lost it, was found making enquiries in one of the shops around.
Poojary’s identification was established from the passbook. Prabhu’s act of honesty was widely appreciated.
A lot of good people still around!
