We did not expect to win it. As a group, we were glad for the exposure, but the moment we found out we had won, everyone screamed. It was incredible. After the exams, we stayed back in Manipal and practiced eight hours a day for two weeks before heading to Mumbai for the national level event. Although Manipal University has agreed to sponsor part of the expenses,(Rs 25 lakhs) but we still have a long way to go to meet our target of 45-50 lakhs “.
Keshav Goyal, President of Blitzkrieg Dance crew said, “It was indeed a hard won victory in Mumbai. Last December, we all began working on an entirely new sequence that was not influenced by other choreographers. Our first test was at IIM-Bangalore. Even though we finished third, we did a get a very good response from the crowd, so we thought the sequence would work. We kept improving and with every performance we improvised. We decided not to repeat a performance. We also won the qualifiers for the Indian Hip Hop Championship held in NIT-K Suratkal in March.
Riding high with confidence, the crew is now looking for funds to participate in the championship in Las Vegas starting from August 8. “We need around Rs 50 lakhs to bear the expenses of travel, accommodation, visa costumes and other miscellaneous things. Manipal University has agreed to sponsor around Rs 25 lakh. But for the rest of the amount, we are seeking sponsors from the corporate world. It is the dream of every aspiring dancer to perform on that stage and with your help and support we can not only achieve that but also bring laurels to the country and establish India on the World Hip Hop map ” said John Daniel, student of Mechatronics, and Vyshnav Kumar, student of Aeronautics- MIT, Manipal speaking to Mangalorean.com
