Canada: Konkani Catholics of Brampton (KCOB) celebrated their third annual Monti Fest on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. John Fisher Church, Brampton, Canada and was overwhelmed by the response and support of the members of the Konkani community.

Brampton-Montifest-2015 (77)

The event started with a grand Eucharistic celebration in Konkani by Rev Fr. Henry Alva and Rev Fr. Andrew Lewis accompanied by a melodious Konkani choir. Children walked in a procession to offer flowers to Mother Mary (Fula Udonche) while everyone else followed singing “Sakkad Sangatha Melyan” and “Moriyek Hogolsiya”. It was breathtaking to watch the culture being passed on to the next generation. Children were treated with Kobu and goodie bags.

The MC took over the evening by welcoming all the guests and the event started with blessing of “Novenm”, which was served in traditional coconut milk and Jaggery. Guests were entertained for the evening with children’s dance, Instrumental on guitar, songs by melodious members and rocking DJ music leading to foot tapping dance by all. Konkani jokes and games with spot prizes, 50:50 draw and door prizes made the evening more entertaining and most of all an interactive experience with the community.

Dinner was served on time and guests were yet again thrilled to enjoy the traditional authentic “Novenm Jovaan”. The aroma and taste of the Mangalorean food brought back memories of home and good servings of delicious “vorn” sealed the dinner experience with a great Mangalorean experience.

Great support from the sponsors with financial contributions, door prizes and spot prizes made the event possible and a big thanks to all of them for their generosity. An amazing evening of tradition, fun and frolic was possible because of the support and dedication of KCOB organisers and their families.
