The deceased has been identified as Ganapathi (51), a native of Kodagu. He was the former DySP in the IG’s office, Mangaluru.

According to sources, Ganapati had served as the sub-inspector of Mangaluru, Bantwal and Puttur police stations and as the inspector in the Kadri police station during the time of church attacks in DK.

On July 7, Ganapati went to Madikeri and hired a room in Vinayak Lodge. After booking the room, he had gone out and returned to the room at 1 pm.

Before taking the drastic step, Ganapathi had given an interview to a local channel in Madikeri and revealed about the harassment from senior officers. In his interview, Ganapathi said, “If anything happens to me, DIG of Lokayukta Pranab Mohanty, ADGP CID M A Prasad and the former home minister are directly responsible.”

In his interview, he also mentioned, “Wherever I go, they used to send CID officers to monitor my activities. I need to bring to the notice of everyone about the harassment that I have faced in the police department. Prasad used to send messages to the former home minister of the places where I would go. I have been hurt by the attitude of these two police officers and also the former home minister.”

He also said, “Whatever I have said is the truth and I want other police personnel to not be harassed. Such situations should not be repeated with any other police personnel.”

The receptionist in the lodge said that while booking the room, Ganapathi had asked if the room (315) had a fan. Two death notes were found in the room one was written to the department about the harassment he was facing and the other was to his family.

Ganapathi was in uniform while committing suicide.

Responding to the tragic death of DySP Ganapathi, opposition leader Jagadish Shettar said that it was sad to note that a sincere police officer ended his life due to the harassment by the former home minister. He also said that sincere police officers do not have safety and respect in the state. “If the CM has ethics, let him drop K J George from the cabinet. If George will not resign from the post or the CM does not drop him from the cabinet, we will stage a protest,” added Shettar.

This is really shocking!! Clearly, the state govt is busy harassing police officials for some reason. We have seen one Anupama Shenoy targeted by state govt forcing her out of services.

I wish this officer could have talked himself out of committing suicide and found other avenues to address the issue. Really sad.

It is proved once again that the senior Police officials of the Karnataka State toe the line of political Masters to pursue their ends harass the sub-ordinate Officials. One can imagine how much mental agony, stress and torture a daring Police Officer like Mr. Ganapathi would have undergone which has forced him to end his life. The senior police Officials instead of protecting their own staff , sacrifice them at the behest of Politicians. The present Govt is encouraging the Corrupt Police Officers at different levels and systematically eradicating sincere and honest Police Officers.

Suicide is not the solution to the problem. He has the responsibility towards his family. Could have resigned and take a different job which gives peace.

This is a sad incident in Karnataka police chapter. Same like dk ravi(kolar), bande(north karnataka), shenoy. All these honest people are tortured by IPS officers, home minister. Put IPS office and KJ george into parappana agrahara jail till CBI/Supreme court verdict. All these 3 people work for money as per ganapati statement.Corrupt people should be removed form karnataka police, ministrial position, all govt boards. Similar torture has to be given to them. Why congress(param/karam, siddaa/pedda,george/korge) trying to scape goad ganapati family(father, brother, wife, sons). They are all 1000% genuine and i support ganapati family.
