Has Murder Suspect Fled to Dubai? Baliga Family Expresses Fear
Mangaluru: Has Yuva Brigade convener Naresh Shenoy taken shelter in the Gulf emirate of Dubai? This is the feeling that the family of Vinayak Pandurang Baliga, the slain RTI activist, has expressed.
The occasion was the visit of G V Sreerama Reddy, CPI(M) state secretary, to the Baliga house on Monday. He arrived there to console the family. During the discussions, Ramachandra Baliga, Vinayak’s father, told Reddy of such a possibility.
She said that most of the numbers of their relatives and near ones saved on Vinayak’s phone which is now in the possession of the police. They had promised to return them in three days. But even after so many days had elapsed, they had not done so, she further said.
Reddy, speaking to media persons on the sidelines, demanded suitable compensation to the family since Baliga was fighting for public causes. He also demanded the early arrest of the suspect, Naresh Shenoy, reportedly absconding since the murder.
Prima facie, it appears that political supporters had a hand in the murder. The inquiry should be intensified and the culprits should be brought to book. If such a fate awaited RTI activists, no whistle-blowers would come forward to expose corruption, Reddy said.
He expressed surprise that a mere notice was issued to Yuva Brigade leader Naresh Shenoy. He blamed the Sangh Parivar for similar incidents in the past too.
Recalling the murder of Harish Poojary in Bantwal, but the government was not able to arrest the kingpin from Kalladka, in spite of fingers of suspicion pointing at him.
