Credai-Mangaluru in association with Father Muller Hospital will be organizing a First of its Kind “Health Camp” for migrant Construction Workers (from North Karnataka and North India) at Fr Muller Hospital on Sunday, 15 May 2016 from 9.30 am onwards.
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, DB Mehta-President of Credai, Mangaluru said, ” Credai, Mangaluru in association with Fr Muller Hospital, Mangaluru will be organizing a “Health Camp” for all the building construction workers here in the City. There are nearly 500-600 migrant workers from North Karnataka and North India who have been employed in the building construction industry, and many of them don’t go for the health check-up. Since there is a spread of Malaria, Dengue and other diseases due to sanitation problems, stagnant water etc, it is advisable that these workers get a health check before they get sick. Not only this one day check up, there will be regular follow up on health checks which will be carried on through medical mobile vans. Also that the government has sanctioned Rs 30,000 each for a poor person to use towards medical expenses, these construction workers should avail this incentive from the government”.
Rev Fr Richard Coelho-Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital said, ” We are happy to sign up a MoU with Credai for this medical camp and future health check up camps. Since there are cases of Malaria, Dengue etc in the area due to stagnant water, open drainage, etc these construction workers hailing from North Karnataka and North India should avail this free health check up. With over 137 years of service to the needy patients, Fr Muller Hospital wants to offer this service to these poor construction workers free of cost, since we believe in our motto, ‘ Heal and Comfort’ and our vision,’To reach out to the poorest of the poor and give medical aid to them. We spent nearly Rs 24 crore annually in giving concession on medical services to the poor. Through this health camp, the construction workers can avail all kinds of medical services for free, with a few services under minimal cost. We will also provide services after this health camp, through our medical service van”.
Dr Uday Kumar-Medical Superintendent at FMMCH said, ” Prevention is always better than cure. Just like we maintain our vehicle before it breaks down, similarly regular health check-ups will prevent from persons getting sick. For this health camp, there will be 12 senior experienced doctors, 24 specialists, 26 junior doctors and 10 helpers. We will provide the best services to these construction workers and make sure they follow up on the treatment if needed”.
