Mangaluru: Abhaychandra Jain Visits Mangala Stadium – Hands over Rs 50 lakh Cheque to DC towards Federation Cup

Mangaluru: The district Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai and the Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain visited Mangala stadium to inspect the ongoing preparations for the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 here on April 18.

Abhaychandra Jain handed over Rs 50 lakh cheque to the deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim at the stadium. Speaking to the mediapersons Jain said that Rs 50 lakh worth of sports equipments have already been supplied by the sports department. “This is the first time that the Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 is being organized in Mangaluru. We have to show that Mangaluru is good enough to host such events.” He also said that the Karnataka government is spending Rs 1 crore towards the event. “The Sports department has already sent Rs 50 lakh worth of sports equipment and the MCC has contributed Rs 20 lakh to the 200 mtr track and for the flood lights, the sports department has also sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the track, grass and sprinklers in the stadium. Our main aim is to further develop the Mangala stadium”.

He further said that this is the first time the government has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh funds for the federation cup before the event and Rs 50 lakh will be handed over to the DC on April 28. Earlier the government was not releasing any funds prior to the event but this time the state government has released Rs 50 lakh as first installment, so that we can do the payments on time.

Jain also said that Bollywood star Suniel Shetty has confirmed his presence for the inaugural ceremony. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be inaugurating the Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015. All the ministers from the state will be present for the inauguration.

After the inspection speaking to the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said that in the District there are a number of Athletes who have participated in the national and international level sports and brought glory to the country. In the world Dakshina Kannada has a special place. The federation cup coming to Mangaluru is an inspiration to the athletes here. Abhaychandra Jain is a sports lover and himself a sports person, even his father was a cricket player. This championship acts as a selection for the participants to be selected to represent the nation in international competitions. He urged the support from the corporate companies towards the athletic meet.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, DCP Law and order Santosh Babu and others were also present. Ministers also met trainer P T Usha and National Record Holder in High Jump, Sahana Kumari at the Mangala stadium.
