Mangaluru: The 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 concluded with the prize distribution ceremony at the Mangala Stadium here, on May 4.Second runner-up in fbb Femina Miss India 2015 pageant, Afreen Vaz was the chief guest of the closing ceremony.
Speaking to the mediapersons, President of the Karnataka Amateur Athletic Federation Dr G Parameshwar said that the entire event had proceeded well. The athletes, officials and the guests who came from various parts of the country enjoyed their stay in Mangaluru. They were happy with the arrangements made by the district administration. They also liked the hospitality and the food provided by the organizers. “Overall, the event was a grand success and the district administration has proved that Mangaluru can also host the National level events. There were some shortcomings which were corrected immediately. In the coming days, if we get an opportunity to hold any national events, we will prefer Mangaluru as the hosting district in the state,” he said.The Minster for Youth Service, Sports and Fisheries, Abhaychandra Jain, also said that the 19th Federation Cup went on smoothly. “Athletes have made new records and the arrangements were very systematic. There were some complaints, which were immediately attended and sorted out. The athletes, coaches and other officials who came here were satisfied with the facilities provided by the organizers.”In the 19th Federation cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015, Devender Singh from the Army set a new record in the Mens Javelin throw with a distance of 79.6m and Inderjit Singh from Haryana set a new record in the Shot Put with a throw of 20.65m.The overall championship was bagged by the Army team with 123.5 points and Tamil Nadu with 114 points. Inderjit Singh of Haryana was awarded the Best Athlete (Men) with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and Srabani Nanda from Odisha was awarded the Best Athlete (Women) with a cash prize of Rs 25,000.A breathtaking, don’t-try-this-at-home type, cultural programme was presented by Punjab artistes.
