Mangaluru: Bollywood Star Suniel Shetty to attend 19th Federation Cup in City

Mangaluru: The District Administration held a meeting on the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015, which will be held in Mangaluru from April 30 to May 4, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on April 10.

Addressing the mediapersons, sponsors and donors, DC A B Ibrahim said that the synthetic track is ready at the Mangala Stadium for the forthcoming 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015. “All the preparations are underway, the cleaning of the surrounding area is also in progress. We are also making a track for the morning walkers and joggers.”

Accommodation, food, stage, lighting and entry arrangements were discussed in the meeting. More than 1000 athletes of national and international fame are expected to participate in the 5-day event. This is the first time that the Federation Cup is being hosted in the state of Karnataka.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Abhaychandra Jain said, “This is the first time that the Federation Cup is being organized in Mangaluru. We have to show that Mangaluru is good enough to host such events.” He also said that the Karnataka government is spending Rs 1 crore towards the event. “The Sports department will be spending Rs 50 lakhs towards equipment and the MCC is contributing Rs 20 lakh towards the event,” He urged the bankers, builders, contractors and well wishers to contribute generously towards the event to make it a grand success.

Jain also said that Bollywood star Suniel Shetty consented to be present for the inaugural ceremony. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be the chief guest and he will be inaugurating the Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015. It is our programme and we have to join hands to make this event a grand success.”

Accommodation, food and other committees have been formed for the smooth functioning of the event.

KPCC president G Parameshwar also attended the review meeting at DC office. Later Parameshwar along with other officials visited the ground for inspection.

MLA J R Lobo, Mayor Jacintha Alfred, MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, ZP CEO Sreevidhya, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Manjunath Bhandary and others were also present.
