Mangaluru: During the council Meeting of Mangalore City Corporation, few councillors belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party raised their voices condemning the delay in the renovation of Town Hall, that has been closed for months. BJP Councillor Sudhir Shetty said that people who want to have cultural programmes and other functions are facing hardship in finding a proper hall to organize their events. Town Hall which had been a ideal place to conduct these events is still under renovation, which has caused lots of inconveniences to the organizers and public.
“What happened to the Rs 99.75 lakh that was sanctioned for the renovation project to DK Nirmiti Kendra-only Rs 30 lakh worth of work has been completed. What happened to the rest of the money? Why the delay” asked Councillor Shetty. But sources reveal that the renovation work had stopped since November 2014 on the ground that the DK Nirmiti Kendra lacked experienced laborers to carry on the further renovation work.
Also raising his voice was, councillor Premanand Shetty who said that Town Hall looks like a dumpyard, with all the old chairs and other furniture piled up in the premises. The councillors who refused to hear explanation from the MCC commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, kept on shouting loudly, as a result the meeting was adjourned by the Mayor.
