Mangaluru: The District Administration held a meeting on the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015, which will be held in Mangaluru from April 30 to May 4, at the Deputy commissioner’s office here on March 29.
CK Valson (Secretary of Athletics Federation of India) along with DC Ibrahim reviewed the progress of the work undertaken to prepare the city to host this national event. Stage, lighting and entry arrangements were discussed among other matters. More than 1000 athletes of national and international fame are expected to participate in the 5-day event. This is the first time that the Federation Cup is being hosted in the state of Karnataka.
The 19th Federation Cup is being organised jointly by the Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association and Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association along with the district administration. This championship acts as a selection for the participants to be selected to represent the nation in international competitions.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on April 30. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be the Chief Guest of the ceremony. The closing ceremony will be held on May 4, in the evening. The Chief Convener of the event will be DC Ibrahim while MLC Ivan D’Souza will be the chief patron. The Chief Minister will be releasing the logo for the event on March 30, at Bengaluru.
MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, MLA Ivan D’Souza, SP Dr Sharanappa, Dr Mohan Alva, Manjunath Bhandary and others were also present.
