Mangaluru: The district jail repeatedly steals the limelight, but, sadly, for wrong reasons.
In spite of regular raids by local and higher-level police officials, prohibited items like ganja, mobile phones, knives are being detected on every occasion.
All corrective and preventive measures like the shifting of trouble-makers to other jails, suspension and transfer of officials and segregation of inmates into different blocks have proved unsuccessful.
Social workers who have visited the jail have quoted a few factors to be at the backdrop of the such troubles. Inmates with powerful background and political pull try to boss over others. Two, frustration of jailed life is taking a heavy toll on their psyche, esp., in the cases of those who have landed behind bars for no fault of theirs or even on petty grounds.
Three, shades of gang wars taking place in the city continue to function inside the jail, based on their allegiance to their respective ‘boss’. Last and not the least, a majority of the crowd is divided on communal lines.
As an addition to the past incidents, a group fight is said have taken place on Friday, Jan 29 evening. Two groups, loyal to Chandrahas Poojary and Vijay of Mangaladevi exchanged blows. The jail officials intervened in time and separated them.
Informed sources said that two persons were injured in the incident and that they have been admitted to Wenlock hospital.

Dear readers,
Well I guess why Mangalore name is dropped from ‘smart city’. Soon it may even resemble Mexico jails filled with drug cartels.
If maximum security jails can be supplied with banned substances and arms, what is the level of security a common man expect from the law enforcing agencies?
There is no doubt, without the help insider it won’t be possible to trespass. It is once again prove that COBRAPOST sting operation is true in all sense.
