Update: The injured have been identified as Pramila D’Souza (28), wife of Alwyn D’Souza; Lingappa (50), the Auto driver; Harsha Nayak (23), Supriya Nayak (24) and Veeksha Shetty (16), a college student from St Agnes College.
Mangaluru: Atleast four people have been seriously injured after a service bus lost control at Nanthur, near Chefs restaurant here on July 25.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus ‘Srivasuki’, bearing registration number KA 19 C 5018, was plying from Polali towards Statebank. When the bus reached near Nanthur, the brakes of the bus failed. The driver lost control and was unable to bring the bus to a halt. The bus went on to hit a two wheeler, pedestrians and an auto rickshaw.
The two wheeler rider was severely injured and rushed to Tejaswini hospital while another man is said to be critical and two others have been admitted to A J Hospital.
The bus after hitting the two wheeler, auto rickshaw and the pedestrians, stopped near Shivabagh. The identities of the injured are yet to be known. As soon as the bus stopped, the driver and the conductor fled from the spot.
Traffic Inspector Shivakumar along with other police reached the spot and are investigating.
Fled from the spot? Were they guilty? Or were they scared that they will be beaten up? Must be another case of reckless driving.
