Mangaluru: Leopards have been in the news in Dakshina Kannada and sometimes in Udupi districts.

About two years, a leopard was seen sitting on a tree at Kenjar Adyapady some passersby. The movement of these big cats is so erratic that it is difficult to determine if it is a sole animal moving around or the same one appearing in different places.

On Wednesday, Oct 14 night around 10, the Central Industrial Industrial Force (CISF) personnel, who take care of the security at the airport, spotted a leopard near the cargo complex, which had until a years ago housed the terminal. It is thought to have jumped across the fencing from the nearby forest.

The staffers burst crackers and drove it away. One Vikram Mada from Yekkar has reported about having seen a leopard on Tuesday evening.

In the recent past, leopards have been seen moving around in areas like Mulki, Punaroor, Lingappayyakadu, Aikala, Talidpadi and surroundings.

So called Forest areas are in the revenue records of the Government only. Most of them were encroached by our greedy brethren. Once we occupy their domain then the wild Animals has to occupy our domain for food and shelter. There is no surprise very soon we will a Leapord in Hampankatta.
