Addressing the mediapersons, Vice President of IWC, Lalitha S Bhat said, “Anupama Shenoy was posted as the DySP at Kudligi in Ballari. Already in a matter of two days, she has been transferred twice to two remote corners of the state. The punishment transfer was given to the female officer by the Labour Minister of Karnataka.”

She said, “Anupama had received a call from an unknown number and she kept it ‘on hold’ as she was speaking to her senior officer. The call from the unknown number happened to be from the Labour Minister of Karnataka, P T Parameshwar Naik. The minister rang up Anupama again and threatened her of the consequences of her action.”

Lalitha further said, “Labour Minister Parameshwar Naik, with the help of the Home Minister transferred Anupama Shenoy to Athani in Belagavi first and the very next day to Indi in Bijapur. She was not due for transfer. The act of the Labour Minister was nothing but sheer vengeance and harassment against the efficient and sincere female police officer.”

She also said that Anupama Shenoy, who hailed from a rural middle-class family, had an innate desire to serve the nation as a police officer. Her passion for the profession made her an able, efficient and sincere officer. Anupama was a meritorious student, who had a dream of working towards building a healthy society and corruption free India. “It is quite unfortunate that the ego of the male minister has been destroying the professional and personal life of a pro-active police officer,” Lalitha added.

“With due respect and humility, I would like to ask Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, if this is the way to support women empowerment? Do you think that Female professionals are safe in Karnataka?” she asked.

When asked if IWC will protest against this issue? Lalitha said, “This is just the first step and soon we will take the second step by holding a protest.”

Vice Chairman of IWC, Chitra Rao, Vajra Rao and others were also present.
