Mangaluru: The district BJP held a press meet in regard to the recent developments in the Prashant Poojary murder case at the party office here, on October 19.

Addressing the mediapersons, BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak said that the district BJP has temporarily withdrawn their protest against the state government for Prashant’s murder scheduled on October 20 in light of the district police arresting the main murder accused. “There are still many questions that need to be answered and more accused to be arrested. The case should be thoroughly investigated and all the forces involved in executing such peace disturbing acts should be found out. The fact that such an act was carried out shows the mentality of the state government. It does not initiate action unless and until protests are made.”

He further said that the BJP respects the police and their investigation, but the continuous meddling of the state government in police investigations in many previous cases has diminished the trust of people in their investigations. “We have decided to withdraw our protest because we still believe in the police department and that they will do justice and find the criminals involved in the heinous act. It is our request to the police department that they solve this case as early as possible.”

He further said that distinction should not be made along the lines of minority and majority in crimes. “The law is equal for all and the state government states this many times, but with them being discriminatory in crimes carried out by people of different communities, they are indirectly supporting communal disharmony in the state. A cow thief was given Rs 10 lakh for being shot while escaping from the police. It is sad that minister Abhayachandra Jain did not even have the courtesy to meet Prashant’s parents and console them. “

When asked if the BJP was satisfied with the investigation so far, Nayak replied that the BJP was satisfied with the investigations. “The police have already caught four people in regard to the case, one of them being the main accused in the execution of the crime. We trust that the police will do the needful. We will follow up with the developments of the case and decide our next step.”

Sensible move by the BJP. Police has to ascertain the real motive behind this heinous and cowardly act.
