Mangaluru: District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai inaugurated the Doping centre for the forthcoming 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 at Mangala Stadium here on April 28.
Addressing the gathering Ramanath Rai said that in sports Dakshina kannada has special recognition in the country. Many Athletes from the district have brought glory to the country and they are recognized in the international level. We are taking all the measures to upgrade the present stadium and the state government has also supported us by organizing the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 in Mangaluru. Chief minister Siddaramaiah has also supported the event by sanctioning Rs 1 crore out of which we have already received half of the amount. Many other organizations have also come forward to support the event.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Abhaychandra Jain said, “19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015” is our dream child. When KPCC president G Parameshwar asked us to host the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 in Mangaluru, I thought it was an opportunity to upgrade the Mangala stadium and accepted the challenge. In Mangala stadium the toilet facilities were not good. Now everything has been upgraded to the mark. We have even beautified the stadium with greenery. The doping centre was in a pathetic condition, now because of the federation cup, it has been renovated. Athletes will greatly benefit from the stadium. We need a international standard swimming pool in Mangaluru and in the coming days we will strive to build a international level swimming pool. While concluding Jain said that the media has played a vital role in bringing awareness among the people regarding the federation cup.
Manjunath Bhandary said, “More than 900 athletes have registered. By April 30, all the athletes will reach Mangaluru. Politicians forgetting the party differences have come forward to support us. Various organizations have also come forward to support the event. On April 30 there will be a cultural programme on the inauguration day.”
Sports director Venkatesh and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim also spoke on the occasion. DC Ibrahim said that most of the work has been completed, we had expected 700 athletes to participate, but now we have come to know that 900 athletes will participate in the federation cup. From April 27, all the Athletes coming to Mangaluru will be provided food and accommodation. All the major organizations have come forward to support us financially. We are expecting about 20000 audience for the federation cup inauguration. College students will be attending the event so that they will be inspired to take part in sports. We have made all the arrangements to bring the medical and engineering college students to take part in the event. Our aim is to make this event a model Athletic meet.
