Mangaluru: Suicide is Not the Solution for Farmers – CM Siddaramaiah

Mangaluru: The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, landed at the Mangalore International Airport, Kenjar at 12.45 pm here on April 24.

Siddaramaiah is in Mangaluru to take part in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new district Congress office at Mallikatta. He will also be visiting the Mudipu Shrine and the Ullal Dargah and participate in the Uroos festival.

Addressing the mediapersons, Siddaramaiah said that the Social and Educational Survey should be completed by April 30. “I have instructed all the deputy commissioners to finish the survey by April 30.”

When asked about the BBMP elections, the CM said that the State Election Commission (SEC) is preparing to hold elections for the city corporation council in May, even as the state government filed a writ in the High Court against holding elections on the grounds that the civic body needs restructuring. In the upper house, the discussions are going on.

“The writ appeal is expected to come up for hearing before a Division Bench on April 27.  It is the decision of the government and in the history of Karnataka, such issues have never been handed over to the selection committee. This is the bad culture of BJP and JD(S).”

A former IAS officer’s daughter was raped 10 days ago but no one has been arrested in this case yet. When asked about this issue, the CM said that the government is not under any pressure from anyone and that the case will be investigated and the culprit will be punished.

When asked about the land allegation on Home Minister K J George, the CM said that the allegation is baseless. When asked about the ‘Netravati Tiruvu Yojane’, the CM clearly stated that there is no ‘Netravati Tiruvu Yojane’.

The number of farmers committing suicide in Karnataka is the third highest in the country. Answering to the question, CM said that the farmers were committing suicide in the state even before the Congress came to power. The CM also assured to support the farmers by fixing the rate for their products. “The state government has assured to solve the problems faced by the farmers. Suicide is not the solution for any problem. We have assured to compensate the farmers if they lose their crop. The government is ready to help the farmers financially.”

Later Siddaramaiah proceeded towards the Circuit house.  District minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai,  Minister Abhaychandra Jain, Health and family welfare minister U T Khader, Udupi district minister in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake, Mayor Jacintha Alfred, MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani, Police commissioner Murugan, SP Dr Sharanappa and others were also present.
