Venkatrao also said, “During my visit to Bhatkal, I came to know that the missing fishermen families were struggling to lead their daily life. I had Immediately contacted the chief minister and he agreed to release Rupees one lakh as temporary compensation for each family”.
While the minister was returning after visiting Thribuja boat owner Chandrashekar Kotian and fisherman Damodar a team of fishermen woman gheraoed and demanded the minister to trace the missing fishermen as early as possible. They alleged that the government has neglected the lives of the fishermen. The fisheries minister has paid a visit after 27 days, this shows the concern of the government for the fishermen community. We don’t want any compensation from the government we only need our missing fishermen back. If the government fails to trace the fishermen then our community will teach it a lesson, they warned.
Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, SP Laxman Nimbargi and others were present.
