| Mangalore March 8: Emergence of a new medium need to destroy the existing medium, said Prof. Buroshiva Dasgupta, journalist eminent media academician. He was inaugurating three-day UGC-sponsored National Level Workshop on Effective Art of Cinematography, on Thursday, conducted by the Department of Journalism, St Aloysius College.
Prof. Dasgupta, Director Manipal Institute of Communication, was the Chief Guest on the occasion of the inaugural of the cinematography workshop. He inaugurated the event by sounding the clap-board in truly cinematic style. In his address, he stressed on the changing trends of cinema and related technology, which help cinema to change. He described the film medium as "the recording of human movement," and touched on topics various aspects like the revolution resulting from the convergence of Cinema and computers.

The Rev Fr. Francis Serrao SJ, Rector of St Aloysian Institutions, made special reference to the evolving education that goes beyond the curriculum. He also emphasized on the significance of media and the might it wields.
Mr. P. N. Ramachandra, the award winning independent film maker, is the resource person of the workshop, training the students with hands-on practice sessions with 3-CCD professional cameras.
Rev Fr. Swebert D'Silva SJ, Principal, Rev Fr. Dr. Richard Rego SJ, Head of the Dept of Journalism and Convener of the workshop, Sr. Dr. Celine Vas BS, Ms Sowparnika, the Faculty members of the Department were also present on the dais.
Shooting Stars-2008 Students' Film Festival
The Dept of Journalism, at St Aloysius College, Mangalore, will hold the valedictory programme of its UGC-sponsored 3-Day National Level Workshop on "Art of Effective Cinematography"- on Sunday March 9, 2008 at 4 pm in the teletorium of St Aloysius College.
Mr Kasaragod Chinna, actor and theatre activist will be the Chief Guest, Rev Fr Swebert D'Silva, Principal, St Aloysius College, Mangalore, will preside over and the award winning independent filmmaker P.N. Ramachandra will be the Guest of Honour.
Around 35 participants from different colleges underwent the rigorous three-day training in "Art of Effective Cinematography" conducted by P.N. Ramachandra, the filmmaker from Mumbai.
The unique feature of Sunday's programme is that 12 short films (varying from seven to ten minutes) produced by the students -as a part of the Shooting Starts 2008 - will be screened before the valedictory programme, i.e. at 12 pm. The best three films will be awarded prizes, sponsored by advocate Ms Anita Shenoy in memory of her late father, and by filmmaker Sri Sadananda Suvarna.
