Muthalik warns all couples to tie the nuptials or Rakhi on Valentine's Day

By Team Mangalorean, Bangalore

Bangalore, Feb 6: Sri Rama Sena chief Pramod Muthalik has warned all couples planning to celebrate St. Valentine's Day in Karnataka, that they would be married off with all rituals and traditions or get ready to tie Rakhi (become brother and sister).

Sri Ram Sena was involved in the recent pub attack incident in Mangalore wherein the group activists allegedly abused and beat up women visitors as they tried to run for safety during vigilant attack.

"We will get the men and women who meet on February 14 married with all rituals and traditions. And if they are brother and sister then they will tie Rakhi (sacred thread that is tied to a brother). So we will be performing this act in every district and every region. The wedding will be conducted with video cameras, music band and a priest," said the Sri Ram Sena chief,

Sri Ram Sena has threatened educational institutions, restaurants and shops selling greeting cards and gifts to boycott St. Valentine Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Renuka Chaudhary has said that women have the right to celebrate any day the way they want, and the state government should protect their independence.

"It is their (women's) right to celebrate a day whatever way they choose to in a democracy. They are empowered by the constitution to do what they think is right. And it is our business and state government's business to give them protection. So after these warnings if one incident happens in Karnataka, we know that there is no law and order in Karnataka. We know that there is total system's breakdown and there are rules and laws which apply to that," said Chaudhary.

In past, several hardline groups boycotted the St. Valentines Day celebrations, terming it as "cultural corruption" from the west. But even violent protests against the celebrations have not dampened the spirits of the youngsters throughout the country.

'Renuka interested in politics than women's welfare'

Sri Rama Sena (SRS) chief Pramod Muthalik today said Union Minister Renuka Chaudhary was doing only lip service while the women continued to suffer in the country.

Reacting strongly against the Union Women and Child Development Minister's remarks that he did not respect women as he was not married, Muthalik said, '' May be I am a bramhachari but I understand what Love is.'' ''I have rescued young women in distress unlike Ms Chaudhury, who stays in the confines of Delhi. Did she ever reacted to rape or other atrocities against women we see every day,'' the Sena leader asked.

It was not right for the Union Minister and woman leader of 'national stature' to comment on a unmarried person like him,'' he remarked.

Defending the attack by SRS activists on a pub at Mangalore on January 24, Muthalik said his men had stopped a most disturbing incident which police failed to put an end to.

''If I tell you what was happening in that illegal pub, the parents of the young women will be shocked, he said and claimed that many residents in the area had requested the Sena for help as police had failed to stop the nefarious activities going on in the pub.'' On the allegation that SRS activists had molested some women, he said if at all such incident happened it is regrettable. ''I assure you that it will not happen again,'' he said.

The SRS chief claimed that a sex and drug racket was going on unhindered and a network was in operation between Bangalore, Mangalore and Goa. Denying State Home Minister V S Acharya's allegation that SRS activists were involved in extortion, Muthalik said ''I challenge anyone who can prove this. SRS is fighting to uphold the Indian culture and such allegations are baseless.''

To Neil,
Please read my post carefully. I never said I support what Muthalik is doing. I am non political. I am just very very surprised and saddened that lots of people here are saying that it is OK for young people to do what they want. It is not. At that age they dont understand what is right. Times of India has reported that lots of youngsters in Delhi pubs are less than 18 years old. I have seen the bad effects of this pub culture. You are saying in UK drunken people will be punished. No they dont. Police here are very scared to be heavy handed because they get accused of breaching human rights. They dont interfere unless these drunken street fights go to extreme. All they do is then keep these youths in the back of their van till the alcohol affect wares off and then let them go. (search "drunk yobs fight in city centre" in you tube and see). There is lot of public pressure building up here to act aginst drunken disorderness. In Liverpool teenagers have formed gangs and are roaming with guns terrorissing inner city areas (search "liverpool gangs" in you tube). These are not organised criminals. Just kids growing in pub culture.Uk government does not know what to do. There are now plans to hold parents of these teenagers accountable.I have also seen how small children of single mothers suffer as there are a few of them in my daughters class who is in 2nd standard.

What I am trying to say is that there are lots and lots of side effects with pub culture. India cannot afford it. There is still lot of poverty to be eradicated. We cannot afford drunken disorderliness, rich teenagers driving cars onto poor people in footpath after drinking, increased sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancies and single mothers. No we cannot afford it. This does not mean people like Muthalik should do moral policing. They have no right to do it. The Government should do moral policing if youth go too far. In the first instance government should educate teenagers about sideeffects of pubculture. If things go too far Government should take action. Free country does not mean people can abuse the freedom. Remember Gandhiji was in favour of prohibition. So it saddens me when Renuka Choudhary a union minister tells youth " pub bharo". From far pastures look green. Indian youth want to imitate west. I have been living in West and know it is not all green. Hope you understand what I am saying.

MUTHALIK should be sent back to THE PLACE where he is from - Maharastra...this man is speading his poison in Karnataka and is misleading our youth in the city.

Its time the youth and people in Mangalore catch these goondas beat them up, blacken their faces, tie a Shoe garland around their neck and take them around the city for Mangalore Darshan.

Bloody Molesters!!!!
Niranjan Padil, India Feb 7, 2009
This man and his followers are a bunch of 'NERVE SHATTERED MANIACS'. By wearing saffron Shawls and naming their "goonda" outfit after Lord SRI RAM and BAJRANG BALI.... they are thinking that they will get away with their crime and be successful in supressing freedom of action and misleading people.

The greatest threat to our nation is not from external terrorist but from FAKE religous people like these who terrorize their own citizens. THE BJP often accuses the CONGRESS of being soft on terror; BUT here the BJP is showing NO interest in cracking down these 'PSEUDO RELIGOUS TERROR' groups.

our advice to them is "PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!".

I.L. Mathias, India Feb 7, 2009
Well done Mr. Muthalik, you have understood the true meaning of Valentine's day.

By tying Rakhi's and tying nuptials you have shown what Valentine's means.

It is not at all sexual lust as the west makes it out to be but the human love that exist between brother and sister, hushand and wife, parent and child and between all true friends.

You have shown that even Ravana has good qualities.
Neil, India Feb 7, 2009
To Nethra,

I really appreciate your Point of view. Whatever you have said here is Out of experience in UK. I agree its just not tolerable to watch things like that with the naked eye.
But here in a state like ours, we are talking about a man who is threatening the youngsters that he will hit us in public, get boys n girls married if found talking, walking on Feb 14th.
In UK, law and order is common for every1 and very punishable if found convicted.

Please tell me this -By Chance, you Happen to work in the Police Department that too in India. Inspite of you being present as a police, some useless fool takes Law in their own hands and startd hitting people in order to teach them ethics, morals... is it correct on your part to just allow such rogues like these to do whatever they want..?

No right...!!If we allow him today he might continue to do something more worse tomorow. In fact he's already having a crown of 50 cases which he is proud of.

If a man like Muthalik wants to teach values, morals to any1 let him hold meetings, start new organisations. He is a man of Political figure so let him contribute to the society in a better way.

He can't force anyone, he can't make all the people living in K'taka should learn by his ways and values. let his men not hit innocent girls.

Is hitting girls an Indian Culture..?
Girls in PUB found caught on that day were not at all dancing in the pub. Not all but in fact most of them were very decent that too wearing pants and simply having lunch.

He is talking about values Right..!!!!!!!Let me tell you something in case you are not aware of. During elections, He and his men come like beggars asking for votes saying that they will do all the good things. Sometimes such people also demand votes by providing liqour or in fact by consuming it with others.
Is this justified...!!! If He and his Chamcha's can drink then Why not others?

I think its high time to educate such narrow minded People. We need to respect everyone's way of living.
Im just criticizing that whatever the BJP Govt is doing to support such activists is absolutely wrong and inhuman. Lets Ban such People. Lets Liberate India.

We need some clowns like this, else news gets to be really mundane and boring....

Cannot imagine a grown up man like this, being after young girls and boys, His head needs to be examined.

BJP taking action against him is another joke.
Shaikh Permude, India Feb 7, 2009
T Gowda, Good comments and I respect your views! but violence & goonda giri is not the solution. shouldnt use awareness Instead ?! By this way both the parties (BJP & Congress) misuse such sene or dalas and purpose will not be served ! Don’t you agree?

Suppose on Feb 14th the daughter and the father, or the mother and the son walk on the street together will Muthalik ask them to marry? Anybody is there to answer?
nethra, UK Feb 6, 2009
I am from Mangalore but have been in UK for last 8 years. I have seen 1st hand the western culture. You go to any city or town in UK on friday or saturday night there will be hundreds of youngsters drinking in PUBS. Many will be standing outside and drinking as there will not be space inside. It is very funny to see even in cold weather girls dressing to expose more than cover. The trouble starts at about 10 pm when everybody is high. Fights start in road. Hooliganism starts with breaking of bus stop glasses, phone booths etc. You will see that now most town centres have ambulances and police vehicles parked during friday saturday nights.I work in medical profession in hospital and A and E is full of drunken injured people on these nights. My friends working in other departments tell me of high incidence of sexually transmitted disease and girls aged 13-14 coming pregnant. The society is broken with lots of single mothers and children going on drugs. This is a welfare state. These people get various allowances like job seekers allowance, housing allowance, child credits. etc.Only the top few percentage of British who are well educated are running the show. They are rich country they can afford it.They want overseas people for skilled sector like IT, Medicine etc. We Indians here were very proud after seeing all this that We are hard working and have achieved something. It fills me with pride that these people who once ruled us, now have to rely on us to run their country. Now just imagine this in India where all youngsters in bars, fighting in street, and asking for state benifits. We cannot afford that. There are calls in Britain for action against youths with strict drinking hours and in some areas curfew for teenagers after certain time in night. So there is some effort to control things. I dont agree the way Sri Rama Sene is doing moral policing. Voilence is always wrong but all those people who say that youth should be allowed to do what they want and those that support importing western culture should just walk the streets of Britain on a friday night and I am sure will change their minds. I feel there has to be Government regulation on drinking. In a free country nobody can stop young boys and girls going out together but there has to be educational campaign about the dangers of casual sex and these young people who want to imitate western culture should be made aware of its dangers. It has to be borne in mind that freedom should be enjoyed with responsibility
Nallini,Mangalore, India Feb 6, 2009
Dear Venkat
Please try to be in the Context of the issue. Here we are not talking about attacks on any religious sentiments but instead we are talking about a Misogynists Like Muthalik and his Chamcha's who have bravely hit women.
Is hitting, kicking, pulling a women's hair in public an Indian culture ?
If Muthaliq is not married, then That is his Problem..That doesnot mean that every 1 has to listen to a 18th Century old man who himself doesnot know what to do next in life and what to talk in public. He himself is jobless and his men too.He is just roaming free on the streets of our counrtry with a turban of 49 cases.
Is there any sense for this and now he wants to get boys and girls married for just being together on Feb 14th?
If we are living in a democratic country, we have the right to live the way we want, then please tell me in which context of any holy books,or scriptures or infact anywhere in the constituion does it say -"It is wrong to talk to a boy in public..?"
Who is Muthalik to get anyone of us married?
If he wants to protest Let him sit in his house and do it.Why is he being the Center of Distraction and seeking attention

I have to ask you Venkat-"If you have a sister/Bhabhi and they happen to go to a pub or a restaurant with your brother just for Lunch/dinner wearing latest fashion and it so happens some Rogues like these(Sena n Baj Rang Dal) hit your near one's brutally for no reason.
-Please tell me will you keep quiet looking at it..?"
Friend I hope you won't.

This has happened in a peaceful place like Mangalore.

Mangaloreans are educated and broad minded Im here just to criticize that BJP Govt can't support such activists.
We Live and we need to allow others Live.

On Valentine's day, if young couples celebate their love around roads of Bengalur, with Lotus in hand instead of Red Rose are spared of this ordeal?
Neil, India Feb 6, 2009
Hey Muthu Anna.Keep up the Gud work man, None of us thought of you before. You are a true Kannadiga -that too standing so high with narrow mindedness...

You want to teach youngsters ethics,culture..etc; I feel your best tutors are Pramod attavar for boys and Nirmala for Girls;
Reason is very Obvious!!! you and your chamcha's cant stand CO-Ed.
Even parents wont have a issue with this great thought of yours.

If you dint feel the necessity of getting married as you said it on Media; Then I think its high time for you to sit with Yedi and Shobha for a refreshers course.
You will reach heights!!

First thing you tried to ban pub culture in a silent place like Mangalore;
Secondly, Like a great Misgoynist you hit women in public;
And Now On Valentines day,You want to get youngsters Married...? that too in a traditional way just for walking and being together...?

Buddy You are really great!! I thought this happened only in movies. If thats the case,Im coming to you Love Guru (Muthu ANNA), coz Im yet to marry and I really want too.

Anyways,I hope I can meet you in Bangalore with my beloved on that day.Wish you happy Valentine's day in advance.Dnt forget I will be wearing red incase you cant recognise me.Have fun Old Man.

Dear Gonsalves J.F. Puttur,
Your comments on Muthalik is very unfortunate. People don't want to respect Hindu's religious sentiments (such as beef consumption). On the other hand, they also want to import foreign culture of drugs and valentine day. No wonder BJP is getting more and more popular.
Nelson Lewis, Bahrain Feb 6, 2009
It appears the Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa and his pint-sized Home Minister, V.S. Acharya, are either not able to take any action against this Sri Ram Sena Chief, Pramod Muthalik or they are hand-in-gloves with him.

Otherwise, please tell me why the Government is not able to take this terrorist into preventive custody and keep him indefinitely under some "Goonda" or any other act for a year or so. Why was this scoundrel arrested and then immediately left on bail?

What sort of democracy does India have that does not protect the interests of common and law abiding citizens, but encourages law breakers?

I would urge ladies to learn martial acts to defend themselves. So when this scoundrel's goons come to attack them, they would be able to challenge them and hit them with whatever is handy, namely stones, sticks, etc. The Karnataka Police are totally incompetent and dance to their political masters' tunes.

If people are united, then this Pramod Muthalik will be subdued, chicken out and may apply vanishing cream and vanish in thin air.

Who is Pramod Muthalik to dictate terms? This man is of an age, when he should do good deeds but, surprisingly, he is indulging in goonda activities.

It is high time that right-thinking people (I am not referring to fanatics like T. Gowda) should band together and challenge this Pramod Muthalik and his hoodlums and give them a sound spanking that is normally meted out to a pickpocketer caught in the act on the Bombay suburban trains.

Gonsalves J.F. Puttur, Mangalore, India Feb 6, 2009
See this old guy Pramod Mutaliq, during his young days he enjoyed nicely and after becoming old he wanted to teach youngsters. Believe me if a female teenager entices with fine exposures surely Pramod Mutaliq and his henchmen will utilize such opportunity and will tell each other nobody has seen, keep quiet, don’t tell anybody, keep secret. Anyway I wish Rama Sana leader and all their servants a happy valentine day in advance.
lancy mp, India Feb 6, 2009
what does muthalif think of himself. Physcology of youngsters is to refuse whatever is forced upon them and force will never work but love can. Even Almighty & most powerful God who is the creator of everything around us generally uses compassion and love to deal with us sinners. let muthalik spread his ideals by use of love and setting a good example rather than spreading hatred amongst peace loving communities of karnataka.

It is wrong to think that immoral activities are new and imported from west. Let us read history of mankind, let us visit ancient temples including khajuraho and most of all let us understand our conscience. We have temptation all around us from the time of creation. Either muthalif is trying to fool us by force or he wants to restrict the human feeling of love, compassion and expression. May God replace hearts of hatred with fullness of love for every God’s creation.

Mr. Muthalik, first learn what is Hindu and what is the culture, then teach others about it. Attacking others is a hindu culture? if, so 80% of the Indian population is hindu's and if, they start attacking each other in the name of culture what will happen? In this case Mr. Muthalik is dreaming about Ravana Rajya instead of Ram Rajya. As per hindu religion there are crores of Gods and Godeses are there but who will save this country God only knows.

Oh man! this Muthalik guy is half way to the grave and he wants to teach young people a lesson...Funny how BJP's oldies think they can educate the youth to follow what they say.. i wonder how many of them have children who listen to them! and the police! gosh! sad state of karnataka and India.

This Muthalik, having at least 44 Criminal cases is teaching the society how to behave? Who the hell is he? It is unfortunate to see that some st.p.d people follow him blindly.. May God open their eyes. Why don't everybody gather together and throw this garbage out of Karnataka? He is trying to create one more Shivsena and get political advantage. Dear friend, open your eyes and take action, before it is too late.

If Mutalik says that Valentine day is a tradition of Christian society, The christian society doesnt have any value for a rakhee. As a christian, i can tie a thread which this goon is calling as rakhee to any girl, since it does'nt have any value for me.

I think it is time to say 'Get well soon Mamu' to this Muthalik. but not with roses, with the old sandals and Brooms...

come on Mr.Muthalik. tell me one contructive thing that you have done for our youth for hindus?? If the pub was illegal you should have told your BJP government to close all pubs. We are hindus and we love our country and relegion. we expect some thing contructive from your side where in people are attracted, youth are attracted to follow you. All we see is goondaism from your side.
Terry Goveas, India Feb 6, 2009
We will get men and women who meet on February 14 married with all rituals and traditions----Pramod Mutalik

Very good sir, excellent opportunity for those in love where parents oppose the alliance to get bound in matrimony with the least of hassle.

Many more love couples might turn up. There will be camera, band and a sumptuous vegetarian feast. For non-veg, separate enclosure is there where butter chicken and naan together with daal-tove will be served. Please note drinks (only indian drinks such as arrack, fenny) will be served.

Bhang, if you are a north indian may be provided. The sole aim is to get high.

Please clarify with Ms Nirmala Venkatesh or Padma Shree Prasad Attavar as to whether only hindu couples are eligible or it can be a mix.

However, what is more bewildering is the silence of the police. Why have they not come out with a strong voice that goondaism will be firmly dealt. Are they not men or are they bakras. Men in the army have laid down their lives for protecting us.

In Mangalore, is it that The police have moved their contingent to Bengere beach to get a break. Any way I am off to Canada for a break to be with my near ones.

Mr Sudhir kumar the Police Chief in Mangalore, be bold, honest, be tough.

I as an Indian citizen am disappointed. GOD HELP INDIA.

If valentines day is western culture then HOW COME ALL ARE WEARING PANTS, SHIRTS, MINI DRESSES, SUITES ETC., WHY CAN WE WEAR MUNDU, DOTHI, KUDTHA? This man is really evil. Mr. Gowda, some of your worry's are ok. but there must be law for that matter and all indian should follow. the issue is not that. the issue is crimes. this srs and bjp are commiting heinous crimes against humanity, incuding extortion in our country by clubbing some issues. which should be stopped by uniting all indians against criminals. if there is some activity which is dangerous, there must be civilized way of stopping it. after all what is the indian culture they talking about? is beating and molesting innocent and diffencless woman? and wearing lot of dark red cloths? abusing, harrasing, murdering innocent people on the street?

It looks like Muthalik has full support of BJP though not directly. BJP's actrion to arrest this Muthalik was only a eye wash. If BJP meant of true peace then they should not have let this man go out of jail. Voters, you have elected this Government and now paying the price. Next time at least careful. If you people want peace to prevail then vote such people who thinks future of the country and not who talk and do only to promote religion. We are in a democratic country and we have the right to do what we wish as long as it doesn't harm others. These fanatics do what they want and nobody interefers and in the same way others also have the right. People like Muthalik are danger to the unity of the human beings and we should get rid of such people. How? It is in the hands of the Government provided they really want peace to prevail.

Most middle class families feel the same thing, but don't speak out. Muthalikji has bildly said what most people believe.

In the name of freedom, CONSUMERISM, SEX, TEMPORARY PLEASURE are being imported into India from Western Countries.

Family, the very root of Indian Culture, Society, has all but been destroyed in the West.

50% Childs are being born OUTSIDE WEDLOCK IN THE WESTERN SOCIETY. These have catastrophic effect on family, society and Country.

People must rise up and protect Indian values, societies.

STOP CONSUMERISM
STOP DESTRUCTION OF FAMILY
DONOT USE WOMEN AS SEXUAL PLEASURE

PROTECT LOVE, MARRIAGE AS DIVINE.
