Bangalore July 26, 2009: Smarting under the recent electoral reverse the Left parties suffered, CPI-M Leader Prakash Karat today called upon the cadre to draw inspiration from Cuba which stood against 'impossible odds' to defeat 'adversity' in the most difficult times.
Speaking at the meeting organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, he said the Left Parties had 'suffered' serious setbacks in the recent elections, but the party workers can look to learn from the Cuban Revolution.
''The Cuban people have come out triumphant every time they fought against the odds. In India the Left and progressive forces must take heart and learn from Cuba and resolve not to surrender ever,'' Mr Karat said.
He said the Left Parties have been 'advised' to part with the fight against imperialism as it had become 'irrelevant' in the present day politics. ''How can you accommodate yourself to the tune of neo-liberal policies?'' he asked.
Reacting to the nuclear deal with US, Karat alleged that UPA Government had played into the hands of the US by signing the deal and the country was now at the mercy of the West on its strategic issues.
He said the Union Government had led the country into a ''strategic entanglement'' with the US and it seemed least worried about the serious consequences.
He said the country was now exposed to an ''American inspection'' and was set to get into a deeper strategic entanglement with the US.
''The result of the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has resulted in nothing but diluting the strategic interests of the country. ''This government is not clear on many things, while things are moving fast against the Indian strategic concerns in the West,'' he claimed on the outcome of the recent G8 Summit.
