By Violet Pereira Team Mangalorean

Mangalore Nov 7, 2009: The district Congress leaders today urged the Governor of the state Hansraj Bharadwaj to immediately intervene in the affairs of the government and take necessary action to restore democracy in the state.

The district Congress presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner to this effect after taking out a rally and public meeting in the city today. The memorandum urged the governor to enact the article 356 and to restore popular government in the state. The memorandum stated that the Governor should direct the Chief Minister to get back to work along with this colleagues and MLAs of his party immediately or face eviction.

Speaking on the occasion Congress leader Mr. Janardhana Poojary (former union minister and the KPCC Chief) said that the government has fully failed in taking measures to reach relief to the suffering people of North Karnataka due to floods.
Mr Poojary initiated the rally earlier near Jyothi Circle walked down to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where he addressed the rally. He said the BJP government had misused the power vested in it by the constitution of India to ravage the Karnataka state by allowing the Reddy brothers to take up illegal mining in Bellary and Sandhur.  He said Mr. Yeddyurappa should sack those ministers and order for a probe into their assets and methods of acquiring those assets.

Mr. Poojary announced on this occasion that "As I am not in any position in the government, but I get pension every month and I have decided to give my 4 months pension to the people of Karnataka who lost their houses in floods through flood relief fund." He urged the people raise their voices against the BJP government and question their right to stay in power.

Mr. Janardhan Poojary warned Mr. Yeddyurappa not to play with the people's life. By destroying churches and mosque, they tried to divide the community. The BJP government spoiled its own image by vandalizing churches, attacking pubs, attacking innocent people and tried to divide the community in the name of religion, whereas the congress leaders dedicated their lives to the country. He also urged the protestors to visit every village and spread the good work done by the Congress party in Karnataka and entire India.

Speaking on the occasion the district president of the Congress party Mr. Ramanatha Rai said, ever since BJP has come to power, Karnataka has witnessed controversies one after the other including firing on farmers, communal attacks on minorities and internal bickering within the party itself. He alleged that when people of the state needed government assistance the most, party leaders were camping in resorts leaving the flood victims suffer.

Recalling the previous governments by Congress headed by Mr. Devaraj Urs, Mr.Veerendra Patil and others Mr Rai said none of these governments left the people of Karnataka suffer during catastrophes. Today, poor people were facing a huge crisis of food and shelter. He urged the protestors to fight for justice and to bring the BJP government ruling to an end in Karnataka.

President of the Youth Congress of Karnataka Mr. Krishna Byre Gowda said on this occasion that the BJP government had no values and was immersed in corruption and was unworthy of remaining in power particularly after the Reddy brothers episode. They have no unanimity and hence they do not have a party formation. He said Mr. Yeddyurappa had taken the Chief Ministerial oath on the name of farmers but the government headed by him was giving a paltry compensation of Rs. 1250 per acre of Mr. Janardhan Poojary later visited the Deputy Commissioner's office and handed over cheque worth Rs. 3,50,000 to Mr. Ponnuraj Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.

These people are rejected old dogs. They are just waiting for such a situation. Now they got a chance to shout. No good for society like those Bellary thieves.

I think this shows that democracy is alive and well. The BJP government is probably the worst and the most corrupt in recent history. On top of it, the Reddy's now have a free hand to do whatever they please, in the name of a "patch-up". The state needs a strong opposition now more than ever before, which can minimimse this open loot of the exchequer. All right thinking people will support an effective Congress at this stage. A weak Congress would mean disaster for Karnataka now

I am surprised to see the current President of St. Aloysius College students union at the congress rally.

It would have been more prudent if congress party had gone to north Karnataka & helped the flood victims instead of taking all these rallies which do not yield any thing. Do something which will please the people.
