Shobha's village remorseful

By Team Mangalorean - Mangalore

Mangalore, November 9, 2009: So what if  I am not a minister anymore, I wield more power as a MLA, no minister, no lobby or no vested interests can stop me now in serving the people said Shoba Karandlaje, the ousted minister of Yeddyurappa government. This was what she told her folks in her village Charvaka near Kaniyoor in Puttur taluk.

Her father Monappa Gowda and brother Lakshman Gowda and mother Poovakka live in this village mending their small farm. Even after her becoming a minister the conditions in her small house had not changed and why should it? Asked Lakshman Gowda when Mangalorean.com called him.

"She had no ambition of becoming rich nor to hold power, but her only wish was to be closer to people especially the rural folks, farmers, labourers, women and children, this was what she had inherited from her training in RSS and ABVP. She is not an ordinary person she has masters in Social Work and when she was being trained in Roshni Nilaya School of social work Shobha had adequately shown her concern towards oppressed classes. As long as her intentions are clear no political power can harm her" Mr. Gowda told.

However her mother Poovakka could not contain her sorrow, she said, her detractors were feeling insecure due to her work, but I know they cannot put her down, my daughter is a strong woman.

The village though has not seen much of her in the last one decade everybody is well aware of her capabilities, Manjunath Herale a BJP bottom level leader says she has no coterie like her detractors. Whenever she visited Charvaka to meet her parents and siblings she used to come by train get down in Kaniyoor, take a taxi home, and I have often wondered why she was alone, but she was always alone, which is perhaps why her detractors were afraid of her and wanted her out of the cabinet.

The political pundits in the BJP district office in Mangalore are mum about her ouster, they appear to be sitting on the fence, they are not sure if they have to protest or support her ouster. So they all have clammed up and are wearing a dignified silence.

Shobha who addressed the media after submitting her resignation continued to ask her detractors what was her fault. "On many an occasion, I have asked them to point out my mistakes. Till today, none of them have told me. This has hurt me a lot," she said adding that she would abide by the decision of the party which gave her this position. Shobha turned emotional when asked about her achievements, she said the state had stood second in country in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana during her tenure, "I hope the new minister will continue the good work," she said.

Shobha was an ABVP activist and headed the state group of Rashtirya Sevika Samithi (RSS's women's wing).  After her legendary fight to save Kumaradhara river campaign in 2001 she achieved meteoric rise in politics which landed her in the state cabinet under Mr. Yeddyurappa as the second in command.

Shobha was elected as an MLC in 2004 but soon contested from Yeshwanthpur assembly constituency and was elected with a big lead over her Congress opponent. It is stated in the political circles that the reformed don of Mangalore origin Mr. Muthappa Rai had helped her to win it. In the cabinet she was so powerful that even the senior most ministers like Dr. V.S.Acharya, Karunakar Reddy, Subramanya Naidu and others had to route their requests through her.

One does not require 'POWER' to do social work. Also remember you were primarily elected to 'serve the people'. Stop being a 'nosey neighbour' and work for your money. That will serve every one best.

When there were attacks on Churches, Shobha, though the product of Catholic Institutions, did not do anything to put an end to it. As far as Reddys are not communal minded, people will definitely support them.

Shobha now go back to Roshani and teach the leadership skills to the present students, if she has any.

Only time will tell about..but i support for her being a lone lady fighting the battle in male dominated politics without much family support..
I hope she keeps up the social work.. we need strong lady like indira in politics

Shobha, relax now. You know and we know you were sincere in your work and yourself. You do not need more kudos than that...just do not be jealous or take any revenge. Politics is politics and not progress...continue what you are doing..the time is the answer..believe in yourself. Rest will follow. Good luck to you

Everyone has failed to grasp the reality. She has the backing of noted Bangalore Don who helped her to win the elections, being hailling from the same village near Puttur. That`s why all are afraid of her including the ministers. This is just disgusting. This point proves that might is right, and not any other qualities of her`s. Moreover she is the active member of communal organisatios like RSS, ABVP etc. What social work can she do? So, my dear friends, all that glitter is not gold. but purely politics. Don`t get fooled atleast in political matters
Wellwisher

Shobha has leadership qualities. She will be back in leadership at right time because she honest woman.
Dr Raj Hegde, Australia Nov 10, 2009
The honest people in politics have become an endangered species and are on the verge of extinction. Mr Yeddurappa has realised the qualities of Ms. Shoba Karandlaje and used her as a barrier keep all the evil elements out of his office. Her role has not made any effect on the ‘honest ‘(if there are any…) politicians. On the contrary it has made life miserable for the crooks (KallarU). She has been a biggest hurdle for the dishonest people.
Other fellow poor Mr Baliger has also been made a scape goat. He has been replaced by an Andra Chap. Who may be close to Reddys Family?

The moral of the story is Chanda Mundas were successful in the coup attempt. Most likely Mr Yeddurapaa will remain as puppet CM and Reddys will be playing the Gombe yata.

Shobha, as you said to the media persons that you will continue to work as social worker because you have Masters in Social Works, don’t you think that to do social work no party affiliation is required.

Exactly Mr. Promod,
"In the cabinet she was so powerful that even the senior most ministers like Dr. V.S. Acharya, Karunakar Reddy, Subramanya Naidu and others had to route their requests through her"

How it happend?

It is unjust. Are the Reddy brothers scared of a single woman?

Her father told "She had no ambition of becoming rich" but this is joke and fooling to people, bcs now she is richest person in the southcanara she brought that savanoor vidyarashmi institution (from seetharam rai)for Rs 20 crore....................this is whose money???

very good.

Just a matter of time for Yeddy to repay this humiliation. He is now biding his time and waiting for the dust to settle down. With the present arrangements he is just a puppet Chief Minister and being an aggressive political leader he will not be able to accept this humiliation. Sooner or later he will work out a formula with the congress and walk away with 40 - 50 MLA's. What he said was right, that he would be the Chief Minister for 5 years..........that will be with or without the BJP. The BJP has dug its own grave in Karnataka. The congress humiliated Veerandra Patil and lost its entire Lingayat base and the BJP is doing the same with Yeddy who today is the tallest Lingayat leader in the state. A so called disciplined party which threw out loyal leaders like Jaswant Singh and Uma Bharati is today under the complete mercy of the mining dons, whose only contributions have been corruption and rape of Karnataka's natural resources.
Pramod, USA Nov 10, 2009
Shobha wants to know what was her mistake? Well the last line in the article tells you the answer..

"In the cabinet she was so powerful that even the senior most ministers like Dr. V.S.Acharya, Karunakar Reddy, Subramanya Naidu and others had to route their requests through her"
