Mangalore August 28: The symposium PRAGATHI on Innovation  and  Entrepreneurship was inaugurated by Mr. Ahmed Ali Khan, General Manager, Corporation Bank at 10 a.m. on 28th August 2007 at Eric Mathias Hall of St Aloysius College. 

In his inaugural address Mr Ali Khan congratulated the students for organizing such a programme for the benefit of students’ community. He stressed the need of core competence and especially a change of mindset in order to be innovative. He also stressed the need of life enhancing skills which are necessary for a Manager. He mentioned that in the present era there are ample opportunities to our young but it is necessary that hey have very good communication skills.

Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director, AIBA in his presidential address remarked that we are the beneficiaries of innovations and ideas generated by people in the past. He specially mentioned that Peter Drucker, the Management Guru was the greatest of Management thinkers, and how his insights into Managing of Corporations and Business concerns were much ahead of the times. 
 
Prof.Manuel Mendonca spoke on  the highlights regarding Innovation, & Invention. He mentioned that the Ethical Leadership fosters Innovation and that  unexamined life is not worth living. Excellence is not an act but an habit. “Managing is helping my subordinates achieving the objectives and make that objective into firm objective” he said.

Captain. John Menezes, president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the linking of foreign culture with local population. He also stated that Management practices have to be related to the local level. He also highlighted the Entrepreneurship spirit of using natural recourses.

Mr Giridhar prabhu, the Proprietor of Achal Industries, gave clear cut ideas about innovation and various ways of adopting Innovation. He also said that our predecessors did not know what they did would have an impact for 100 years.  

The final session was given by Mr. Ronald Mendonca.

Mr B S Baliga, Chief Executive, Lamina Suspensions, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function which was held at 4.30 p.m. He congratulated the students for the excellent organization and shared his views on innovation and entrepreneurship. He cautioned the participants that only 40 percent of small scale entrepreneurs have been successful and this was due to relevant feasibility study.

Certificates of participation were awarded to the delegates who participated in the symposium. Mr  P G Aquinas, Professor & Dean, AIBA welcomed the gathering and Rexon proposed the vote of thanks. Roshan Menezes, the student coordinator and ms Caren Crasta , the faculty guide were present.
