Mangalore Jan 17, 2008: Even while the countdown of hours had begun for the Paryaya Mahotsava in Udupi there appears to be no respite in the stand off between the two groups of the swamijis.

Chatting with the press persons at the Math premises today from his office Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji said that he had told the other six seers of Ashta Maths that the Puttige Seer could ascend the Paryaya Peetha and carry out those "pujas" to Lord Krishna at the Sri Krishna temple, which did not require touching the idol of the deity.  The Puthige Math seer Sugunendra Thirtha had agreed to this he added. The six other swamijis also did not have any objection to his performing  poojas if he did not have to touch the krishna idol but  they were opposed to his ascension to the Paryaya Peetha  itself.

The swamiji said that he had made efforts to convince them but they were not convinced about the idea. The swamiji said the Puttige Seer was right in his own way, so too were the other six seers. But nothing could be ascertained till now.

Horekanike

Meanwhile, the devotees from Mattu Village today brought "Horekanike" in preparation for the Paryaya Utsav which will be held on Friday January 18. People carrying "Matti Gulla" on their heads came in a procession which culminated in the temple.

"Matti Gulla" are one type of brinjals which are grown here in the village near Udupi. According to the legend the great reformer Shri Vadiraja Swamiji who lived here in the 15th Century had given the seeds of these Matti Gullas to the people of this village which has been found grown here in abundance. Hence, it has been a custom that the people of Mattu Village offer them to Lord Krishna during the Paryaya.
