Mangalore: 76 children hospitalized for food poisoning – Images


 

MANGALORE, June 10, 2009: A total of 76 children were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning today at Deralakatte Yenepoya hospital. They were taken ill after consuming breakfast at their hostel in the Government Muslim Residential School at Natekal near Deralakatte. 
 
According to the police the children were served Kadabu and tea for the breakfast at 8 am after which they went to school where they complained of stomach ache and vomiting.

They were immediately sent to the nearby Yenepoya hospital at Deralakatte. Some of them went seriously ill and developed vomiting and diahorrea. They were treated immediately and the doctor diagnosed it as food poisoning. Soon 14 children were discharged from the hospital. According to hospital authorities all the children have been treated and will be sent home by morning.
 
According to the Ullal police inspector Mr. Nagaraj the hostel authorities have informed him that a particular item for the breakfast was cooked in two different batches. Those who consumed breakfast in the first batch were affected.

Really it is bad incident. Govt has to be strict with these hostels. Food Inspector Dept has to check that this kind of incidents should not occur. Thank God every child is safe.
