MANGALORE June 19: The "Seyyid Madani Sunni Kannada Educational Board of Karnataka" plans to introduce "Quranic Studies" in Kannada and English in the institutions run by it from this ing academic year. The board presently runs 15 schools and 28 Madrassas in the three coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.

Addressing presspersons at the Hazrath Seyyid Madani Darga Sharief in Ullal, president of the board U.K Monu said that Kannada and English as a medium of instruction in Quranic Studies had been tried in 2008-09 at a school run by the board at Ullal.

"The results of this trail have been so encouraging that we are now planning to introduce this programme in all the 15 high schools and 28 Madrassas run by our board," he said. The board hopes that the burden on children, who had to straddle between their regular schools and Madrassa education, would be considerably reduced by the introduction of Quranic Studies at schools. He, however, said that the introduction of the subject was on an optional basis.

Sharing

In its attempt at popularising the unconventional medium of instruction, the board was willing to share the Kannada and English syllabus, developed exclusively by it, with other educational institutions across the State and the country, Mr. Monu said.

Addressing the general issues faced by the children at Ullal, particularly by the Muslim community, Mr. Monu said that the Railways should ensure that number of trains stopping at the Ullal Railway Station was increased.
