Bangalore, October 17, 2009: Popular Front of India with the motto of service to humanity has once again stood in the forefront to serve the flood affected people of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh from the day one. Apart from relief works in Raichur, Bellary, Gulbarga and other districts of Karnataka, The Popular Front of India cadres are carrying out relief work in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on war footing. The devastating floods has marooned kurnool district leaving many people dead and homeless.
Beginning with rescue operations, the cadre of Popular Front of India risking their own lives saved more than 1500 people irrespective of caste, creed and status with the help of lorry tubes and bamboo tokra boats and sheltered them in different temporary camps like Madarasas, Masjids & community Halls, nearly 500 women are sheltered on 1st floor of the Masjid even before the government machinery could react. The dedicated cadres of Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka divided themselves into different groups such as rescuing, cleaning, cooking and feeding and medical aid with an in charge for each groups and ventured into the different part of the city catering to the needs of the people round the clock in shift system.
In the course of these twelve days more than 50,000 cooked food packets were distributed to the flood victims at their door steps. This cooking team of twenty five cooked 700-800 kgs of rice everyday. Also a morning breakfast kit of bread, milk, jam, biscuits, breadnan and prepared upuma along with morning kit of brush, paste, soap and detergents, dettol, candle, mosquito coil and match box were distributed by the distribution team consisting of 80 cadres.
The cleaning team of 60 cadres took up the uphill task of washing and cleaning Mosque, Madrasa, Education Institutes and houses. The cadres cleaned 52 Masjids, 4 Madrasas, 2 Shadi Mahals, 14 houses and also streets of 4 mohallas were cleaned. Medical team comprising 6 Doctors including a Lady Gynecologist and ten volunteers conducted medical camps everyday at different places in which average of 450 outpatients were treated apart from consultation medicine were distributed and severe cases like diarrhea were admitted to Government Hospital.
A team for Public relation interacted with Media, Philanthropists Government Officials, Local leaders, Ulemas and other NGO’s. And hence different delegations visited the relief Camp of Popular Front of India located at Masoom Basha Dargah Area, Khadakpura, Kurnool. The special commissioner for relief work Mr. Siddarth Jain, IAS along with Deputy Collector MR. Srinivasa Reddy, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner visited the relief camp. He praised and appreciated for the discipline of the cadres and service rendered and promised whole hearted support and asked the teams to continue survey and identify where the Govt., relief has not reached so that he could provide. He also ordered the deputies to provide machineries for cleaning in the most remote narrow lanes and to provide police Bundo-Bust during the Mass relief Kit distribution period. MLA Janab Shahajaah of Madanapally also visited with the team and appreciated & promised to support for any requirement.
Ex MLA Janab Abdul Gafoor, Kurnool with his team also visited the camp and praised for service. Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Chief Editor Siyasat Urdu Daily with his team also visited the camp and praised for disciplined & systematic service done to the flood victims and donated clothing material and other accessories & promised to support in future. Mr. Jabir Bin Saayed, from Mahoobnagar, and his team of MMF visited the camp site along with relief material for distribution. Central Peace & Welfare Society & Asif Nagar Police Division from Hyderabad brought relief material kits for distribution.
Delegations from different organizations have been visiting and appreciating the relief services by PFI. Those who visited included Mufti Masoom Saqib and others of Jamaithul Ulama e Hind, Moulana Gayazuddin Rashadi, of Safa Baitul Mall, Amjadulla Khan Khalid of Muslim Bacho Thariq, Hyderabad, Kundakar Salim Haj Committee, Srinavasan Rao of POP, Ulamas from different districts, Dr. Ismail sahib, Moulana Yosuf Jameel Jamai and other local leaders.
On 12 th October 2009, the National General Secretary of Popular Front of India Janab K.M. Shareef and National Executive Council Member Dr. Mahboob Shariff Awad along with Andhra Pradesh council members surveyed the flood affected areas to assess the damages for further rehabilitation planning and also decided to extend this relief camp for another 10 days and also contacted relief commissioner Mr. Siddarth Jain IAS., and requested him to take appropriate action for cleaning the narrow by lanes of Garib Nagar, Roza, Alisher Bag, Bekar Katta,
Chatri Bag areas which are contaminated with silt and are impossible to clean manually.
During the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Rosaiah Garu visit to kurnool a delegation of Popular Front of India led by K.M. Shareef Gen. Sec., along with A.P office bearers met him and explained the condition of the affected areas and submitted a 15 point memorandum. He ordered his secretary to take immediate action.
On 12th October 2009, Popular Front of India cadres again surveyed 24 affected areas and identified 8000 deserving families and distributed 4000 coupons for relief kits to be distributed on 13th October 2009.
On 13th October 2009, the relief camp of Popular Front of India at Taj Function Hall, Kurnool was flooded by the victims, elaborate arrangements were done for disciplined and systematic distribution to avoid any untoward incident and commotion. The relief kits contained rice, dall, oil, tamarind, spices, woolen blankets, bed sheets, towel, saree, nighties, children wear, lungi and pant shirts. During the distribution many dignitaries and well wishers, sponsors and donors like Mr.Mujtaba Khan CEO of VIPs International School, and a delegation of Central Peace and Welfare Committee, Hyderabad also participated. The distribution was completed by 3:00 p.m.
On 13th October 2009, remaining 4000 coupons were distributed to the deserving families of the affected areas to whom the relief kits were distributed on 14th October 2009. Till late evening many well wishers visited relief camp site in appreciation. The kit distribution and medical camps are insufficient as the loss and damage of material and health is heavy and out of fulfillment. The situation of the Muslim community and other economically backward class is appalling. Popular Front of India appeals to all Philanthropists, Doctors, Donors, NGOs, Social Activists & workers to come forward and involve in this humanitarian service.
