Mangalore: 'Conversion charges false' - Sangliana

MANGALORE Nov 10: Patron of Karnataka Missions Network H.T. Sangliana said on Monday that allegations of Christians having been involved in conversions at two recent incidents reported in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district were not true.

Addressing presspersons here he said that the two inmates of a hostel at Udyavara had complained to the police that the warden of a hostel was attempting at converting some inmates into Christianity.

In another incident at Attavara in Mangalore, activists of an organisation tried to storm an apartment complex alleging that its inmates were indulging in conversion. There was no substance in the allegations made with regard to the two incidents, he said. Mr. Sangliana alleged that unnecessary charges were being levelled against Christians that they were indulging in religious conversion.

Hello, Friends this report is a false accusation, because, I know my mother who never does such things; we have been running Bethel Children’s home since more than a decade. We never came across any such kind of accusation from anybody. I truly believe that this falls accusation is by Hindu Fundamentalist, who is trying to close all Christian institutions in Karnataka. These people are getting support from BJP government, and working through them, this people acting like terrorists in India. Their aim is to give troubles to the innocent people Christians. They know that Christians do not fight back so they take it as an advantage. So I request you to understand the truth behind this issue of arresting my mother. Friends please lest all unite together and fight for this.

Patrick, You may note that
In the second instance also, the watchman of the Apartment, Siva has complained that the inmates were trying to persuade him frequently to convert with lucrative offers!
How can Sangliana pass judgments that there is no "truth" without looking in to the gravity of attempts and the complaint?

NS Shenoy,
I know of cases that happened in our own village when I was little, but I guess the editor will not allow it in this forum, maybe because it is considered a sensitive subject. Meanwhile, we are supposed to pretend that conversions do not exist.

N S Shenoy, does mere reciting the bible by Megha and Shilpatha convert them to christians!!. These days even parents have not succeeded in disciplining their erring wards by using "force", forget about converting. Christianity does not come cheap as you think and will never be. So lets leave it at that..
Moreover, their parents are there to guide the girls. Now don't come up saying they are illiterate. An illiterate will be far more sensible and honest in their comments than you yourself. Repeating a lie a hundred times does not make it a "truth". Serves no purpose. The sole problem is the law and order machinery. Its a matter of time. But in the process we take two steps backward for a step forward in the world ahead of us.

R. Pai and all those questioning to show proof of attempted forceful conversion:

The news in all newspapers of 1st November and later on arrest of the warden:

Two students, Megha H.L. and Shilpatha studying in Government P U College staying in the Bethel Boarding Hostel have complained at the Kaup Police station that they have been harrassed and pressurised by the Hostel Warden Saroja Margaret to read Bible everyday and threatening to throw them out if they don't.

Every Sunday, if they do not recite 10 lines from the Bible, they are scolded and refused breakfast by the Warden Margaret. On Sundays, she used to take inmates by force to Ajjarakadu church for prayers.

On the basis of the above complaint, the hostel warden has been arrested.

Now what punishments do Sangliana propose to this forceful method of conversion adopted by the Hostel Warden using undue advantage and coersion?

Mr Sangliana was is and will be the most brave and honest police officer that the Karnataka police cadre has seen.

It was due to these very qualities that the BJP nominated him from Bangalore as he provided easy branding and popularity to the BJP. Ananth Kumar called him one of the top 50 must meet people in India. But alas he was too honest for the BJP to handle and he would not dance to their tune either.

The constituency from which Sangliana won (earlier held by Jaffer Sharief) is a constituency dominated by Muslims and Christians. It was hard for BJP would have won there with a regular Sangh Parivar candidate.

In the elections this time, Deve Gowda played spoil sport for Sangliana and put up a Minority candidate for JDS to split the minority vote away from Sangliana. JDS took in close to 2 lakh votes and that caused Sangliana to loose by 30 thousand votes to the BJP candidate. Thank you Mr Deve Gowda anyways.

Mr Sangliana, I am glad to see him still continuing as a honest citizen leader. This is one brave man, who goes by what is right and wrong irrespective of what those in power might say.

He could have issued this statement from Bangalore. He didn't have to go thru the hurdles of meeting people and all. We all know how 'fair and balanced' he can be. It's like sending a Bhajarang Dal member to investigate the same incident!!

We need to discourage both parties (aggressive conversion activities by groups such as 'New Life' AND aggressive Hindutva groups such as Bhajarang Dal) from making the situation worse.

Whatever he is now, Sangliana lost respect of Karnataka people due to his communal involvement.

Bringing and adding additional member to the family is first of all economical burden. Any sensible person will not bother for this issue as there are no issues exist as it is created issues which has proof to substantiate it. If some one leaves his faith and follow other faith, then there is something wrong with that person or their religion.

False propaganda will have bad effects as the truth is already been exposed in other parts of the country about this group. Inciting violence is nothing but show of one's failure in every field and covering this failure by adopting wrong methods. Ultimately the person who take the sword will die with the sword.

This is a propoganda by the BJP and its saffron partners B.D, SRS, HJS etc. to harrass the minorities in D.K.

Its all because they are in power in state and they think they can get away with anything. The impotent D.K police force has outsourced law enforcement to radical groups like Bajrang Dal and Ram Sena.

But they are forgotten that they first alienated the backward classes, then muslims and now the Christians, eventually these people will end up isolating themselves.

But my friends remember " A PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD" and the truth will destroy their propoganda and goonda raj.
