Mangalore: Huge stock of sand seized

MANGALORE Nov 11: Police and Revenue officials on Tuesday raided a place at Coutinho Padavu, near Neerumarga, where a person had stocked a huge quantity of sand in an open place and on the premises of his house, allegedly without a licence. They seized six vehicles in this connection.

S. Girish, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Panambur subdivision, told The Hindu that the accused claimed to have a licence for sand mining but failed to produce it.

He did not have a licence for stocking sand, he added.

Mr. Girish said that sand stocked by the accused could be about 2,000 lorry loads. Mr. Girish said that the police did not arrest the person on Tuesday as the Mangalore tahsildar would have to file a complaint to this effect with the Mangalore rural police.
