'Killing of stray dogs against Hindu tenets'

NEW DELHI March 6: Strongly condemning the Karnataka Government's 'inhuman and barbaric act' of killing stray dogs in Bangalore and Mysore, the Animal Lovers Association of India (ALAI) on Monday said it is a flagrant violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and against the tenets of Hindu religion.

"The reasons for the two child deaths due to dog bites are being overlooked, and a mindless killing of street dogs is being resorted to," the Delhi-based association said.

"Instead of vaccinating the stray dogs and controlling their population through sterilisation, merciless killing of the animal is taking place," association president and senior journalist Hironmoy Karlekar said in a statement, and called for an immediate stop to these ghastly and cruel acts.

Pointing out that dog is man’s best friend, whose protection is advocated in Hindu religion also, Karlekar referred to an incident in Kolkota where a dog saved the life of a new born baby by protecting and guarding it near a dustbin for three days.

"A civil society should never allow mass killings of any form of life, be it a man’s or a dog’s.... The merciless killing as directed by the Karnataka Government can never be a solution," he said and added that it would adversely affect the image of the State. -- UNI

Dogs bite two more in Bangalore

With the stray dog menace continuing unabated in the IT hub, two more persons--a 60-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy--were attacked by the animals in the city.

The woman who was taking a stroll in front of her house in Rajajinagar area sustained injuries when a street dog bit her, Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities said.

The boy was attacked by a stray dog in Kodihalli area. Meanwhile, the BBMP was going ahead with its special drive to catch stray dogs.

The dogs had recently mauled to death two children, evoking sharp public protests.

This is ridiculous, the state govt. of Karnataka wants to go around killing man's best friend and make the city 'free' of these strays.WHo made these animals strays in the first place? MAn! Who made them this ferocious? Man! The butcher shops dumping meat around. WHen most men still suffer from extreme unethical behavior and lack of discretion in the most critical of cases how on earth do you expect a dog to act responsibly in this case? THe b'luru incident is shameful no doubt. BUT the answer for 2 lives is not another 70,000 lives. The Karnataka govt. cannot decide the cost of a life. Especially when there are better solutions.
These dogs can be caught and put into animal shelters. A small part of the money the Karnataka govt has spent on feeding the 'politician dogs' can be used to give out lands for 'street dogs'. All that is required is pieces of land anywhere. Keep them in a 'zoo for dogs' no issues but don't kill them.

If the state government is going to adopt this policy for the death of 2 small kids, then what about the thousands of women who get raped and murdered everyday in b'luru. WHAT did the government do about. Did they shot all men on the roads. Sounds stupid right? That is because a human's life is precious. BUt the government of Karnataka should understand that they have not 'yet' been given the power to set the price of life especially when animal welfare organizations are screaming out better solutions.

Another point is animal welfare organizations are very short of funds. The govt has never bothered to encourage them. May be now is the right time to work with them. Provide them with men to catch the animals and put them into the 'dog zoos' instead of hiring men to kill the dogs and find them burial grounds.
Little extra effort for life!
please forward to all friends asap

Killing snake, stray Dog etc against Hinduism. life of Dog is more valuable than human being's. Let us start Dog Shala & Saamf Shala to protect them. Govt has to reserve some fund in next budget.
