Congress demands CBI probe into 'bicycle scam'

Bangalore, Apr 10 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Dinesh Gundu Rao today demanded a CBI or Lok Ayukta probe into the 'bicycle scam' by the coalition government.
Speaking to newspersons here today he said the scheme of providing free bicycles to high school girls was nothing but swindling of public funds involving about Rs five crore.

''It was justified in asking for a CBI inquiry because it is an on going scheme annually and not a one time order,'' he said.

He also demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B S Yadiyurappa if he fails to give the explanation on the issue.

To strengthen the party base in the state a convention would be held in Tumkur later this month. More than 50,000 party workers would take part in it, he said.
