Ramakrishna Mission Completes 12th Successful Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan

Mangaluru: Twelfth week of 7 cleanliness drives of the 400 Abhiyans being organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru took off on Sunday, the 25th December at 7 different locations in the city.

150 Karangalpady – Members of Subramanya Sabha Sadan took up he drive in front of Subramanya Sadana and Capuchin church. The Senior friars of the Church and Swami Jitakamanandaji jointly flagged off the drive. Under the guidance of Dinesh Holla, Attractive paintings with messages of Swacch Mangaluru have been painted and are attracting the attention of onlookers. Both sides of the road were cleaned. Manish Rao, Prakash Salian, local councillor, Ranganath Kini and several others were present.

151 Hampankatta – Members of Team Inspiration carried on the drive on the main road opposite Lady Goshen Hospital. Madan, SI, Bunder and Prof. Sheshappa Amin jointly flagged off the drive. A group of members under the leadership of Sahil cleared the posters stuck to the walls of Bus shelter and cleaned it. Artistes Gajendra and team have painted attractive paintings on the wall. Nikhil Shetty, Venkatesh Kumar and other youths cleaned the road and footpaths. Madan was guiding the volunteers all through the drive. Umanath Kotekar supervised the works.

152 Ganapathi High school Road – The Students of Ganapathi English Medium high school cleaned the campus of the school and GHS road. A S Ramachandra Rao, CEO of Saraswat Education Trust flagged off the drive. Teachers, Namitha and Nagaraj guided the students. For the past 2 weeks, the compound walls are painted with Worli paintings which were resumed on this Sunday too. Mahesh Bondala coordinated the team.

153 Good Shed Road – Members of Nityananda Balaga cleaned the Neereshwalya Road. Madhav Shetty and Narayan Shetty flagged off the drive. The road leading from Nityananda Ashrama to Nereshwalya was thoroughly cleaned. A team led by Gopalakrishna Kumble cleaned the Nagasthana in that area.

154 Mangaladevi – Members of Nivedita Balaga took up the drive in front of Mangaladevi Temple and on Mangaladevi Road. Sharath Chandra Dongre flagged off the drive. About 50 youth under the guidance of Rathna Alva cleaned the road leading from Mangaladevi Temple to Cascia Highschool. Varondara Pradeep completed the painting started as installation art opposite Jeppu Park on the road roller. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the team.

155 Jyothi – The members of Team Silver Fox carried out the drive in Jyoti Circle area. Jyothi circle and all the four roads leading to the circle were cleaned. They renovated and repainted the name board of Shivarama Karanatha Road. Dilraj Alva and MCC Corporator A C Vinayraj actively participated in the drive. Dhanush coordinated the team.

156 Kalladka – The Students of Sri Rama Vidya Kendra and Swacch Bharath Nirmana Sangha had jointly organised Swacch Kalladka Programme. Principal Krishna Prasad initiated the drive. Roads leading to Kalladka Main market were cleaned. About 50 college students participated in the drive.

Great work by these monks. I still see a reluctance from religious minorities (including a few big educational institutions run by these groups) to participate in this historical effort to make our city and country a cleaner and greener place. I’m hoping that decent media, journalists and public start putting more and more pressure on these groups to be Indians first. Let’s see..
