Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan Completes 22nd Shramadan

Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan’s 22nd week’s Shramadan was carried out in Kulshekhar on April 1.

At 7.30 am the drive was flagged off by Dr Rakesh Krishna, Professor, Nitte College of Physiotherapy and citizen of Japan Masahiro Monoyi. Capt Ganesh Karnik, Prof Satish Bhat, Nazeer Ahmed, Joseph Rodriguez, Himmat Singh and others were present on the occasion.

Cleanliness Drive: The drive began at Kulshekar junction. Volunteers were divided into 4 groups. Students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy guided by Sowmya Srivatsa cleaned the area from Shaktinagar Cross to Bikarnakatte. Another team under Dr Purushottam cleaned the drains by removing the garbage. Jayakrishna Bekal and other volunteers cleaned inner road and drains of Kulshekar Bus stand. Members of Hindu Warriors cleaned the road leading towards Shaktinagar. Sudhir Vamanjur and Ravi K R led the group of volunteers in removing the stone slabs lying in front of bus stop disturbing the public. The slabs were properly laid on the footpath covering the drains benefitting the pedestrians.

Cleaning of Bus Shelter: Two bus stops regularly used by the commuters in Kulshekar – Shaktinagar cross were thoroughly cleaned by removing the illegal posters. The neglected bus shelters were cleaned and painted anew giving them a much deserved facelift by Sri Uday k P, Anand Adyar and others.

Clearing the heaps of garbage: Several dumping places in the city are being developed as small parks by the volunteers of the Abhiyan in order the create awareness among the public. A spot in front of Inchar restaurant was used by the local pubic as dumping yard. Volunteers cleaned the spot with the help of JCB and the spot was levelled by covering with mud and the spot was decorated with flower pots giving it aesthetic touch. Sandip Kodikal, Mohammad Shameem and others actively participated in the work.

Awareness Campaign: Members of Nivedita Balaga along with Kodaneg Balakrishan Naik visited many houses on Kulshekar Main road distributing handbills on awareness. They also urged the local shop keepers, street vendors, hotels urging them to keep the area clean. They were also asked to coordinate with the waste management collection vehicles so that the waste is collected regularly.

Ashok Subbaiah, Sujith Prathap, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Deepak Melanta, Arjun Joshi and many other volunteers participated in the drive. Sri Umanath Kotekar coordinated the drive. All the volunteers were provided with tiffin after the drive. MRPL is sponsoring the drive.

MRPL, Ramakrishna mission monks, volunteers and Capt.Karnik – These are the real heroes. We need thousands more like them to make an impact.

God bless all those volunteers who are motivated to spend their time and energy in helping clean their hometowns and surroundings, under the leadership of the Ramakrishna Mission. Serving God and serving the Community is Love, and with love comes harmony, peace, and well being. Similarly, Specialist Doctors of various disciplines of medicine should also give back and reach out on a weekly basis to the poor and needy of their town and neighbourhood.
