Since our childhood days, my mother used to make tongue tickling tangy spicy chutneys and we used to relish them with congi or curd rice. On a rainy day, we used to relish spicy raw mango chutney and pickled mango gojju. Nearby in the neighbourhood, we had Bunt friends who used to make dry fish chutneys in rainy season. I still remember the aroma of chutney

When my friend Sylvia said she was coming over to spend a day with us, I decided to make it a fun-filled day with activities. Knowing what a creative person she is, I thought it best to spend the day baking cakes and decorating them. We went to the kitchen only to make breakfast, and after that it was only cakes and more cakes. Luckily, hubby volunteered to take us out for a sumptuous lunch, and we relished more than our usual.

When we talk about cutlets, first name that comes to mind is Diana Restaurant of Udupi that is world famous for vegetable cutlets. Their cutlets are light, crisp on the outside and soft inside and go well with tomato ketchup and green chutney. I have tasted excellent cutlets at Komal’s

It is the much awaited Christmas time …… a time when you start to put up your Christmas tree, hum and listen to carols, make plans for Christmas sweets, buy gifts for your loved ones, get closer to your family and friends and a time to get closer to your faith.

Mother's Day reminds us of the warmth and love we received through the wonderful beings that are our mothers. I wanted to create something special on this day, my object of creativity being a watermelon.

Ghee Roast is one of the most popular delicacies of Mangalore, popularized by the Bunts of Kundapur. Hotel Anupama introduced this dish back in the mid Eighties. Today, almost every Mangalorean restaurant serves Ghee Roast. I prefer prawns

It was in the year 1983 that I visited Hotel Windsor Manor in Bangalore for the first time. Sitting in Nelson Room with my colleague on a summer evening, we ordered for chilled Lager and asked the steward what goes well with it as a starter.

Mangalorean.com is celebrating its birthday today…..and I wanted to make something special to post on its big day. I knew it had to be something sweet...but whatttttttt ???!!! Cupcakes, trifles, cheesecakes, doughnuts…made it to the list but were crossed out. Finally, a Pear and White Chocolate Charlotte it was; coz I wanted it to be something different, easy to make, and of course, something special.

"Yule log", also known as "chocolate logs" or "Bűche de Noël" is a traditional Christmas dessert. I always admired Yule Logs at the bakery and when an opportunity came to try this lovely dessert, I took it without even blinking

Baking is always fun, more so when you ask the children to help you out. We made these wickedly sweet Cinnamon Buns this weekend and we had a roaring time measuring the ingredients, grating the lemons, waiting for the dough to rise, shaping the buns

It's time to resume, the season of shrimping and fishing. If in India monsoons held it up, in Bahrain, the resumption is after the 4-month curing (protective) season that took away the fresh prawns from the market place.

Friends, I was working in Bangalore from 1980 - 1985. Of all the Restaurants, I found two places that serve fantastic Masala Dosas! One is Udupi Krishna Bhavan in Balepet and another is Vidyarthi Bhavan in Gandhi Bazaar.

This is a favorite breakfast/snack of my daughters. They call it sweet idli. The taste of this idli is similar to the traditional 'thovchyache mandaas' or 'thekkare adyar'. The recipe itself is slightly modified and made simpler. It does not involve grinding of fresh coconut

This is a quick and easy recipe - useful when you have unexpected guests or when you are fed up of cooking the same thing over and again. Stock frozen chicken and beef meatballs in your freezer at all times, you never know when the unexpected guest walks in.

My friends always pester me for recipes; but they want simple ones that can be done in a jiffy. This one was not elaborate and was completed in less than 45 minutes. So here goes… some Jhatpat Khana for you..

It was my hubby's birthday and some of our close friends were coming home to wish him personally, and during Lent most of us do not eat meat, so I decided to make some Mackerel curry with roasted masala, which turned out to be fantastic!

I have been pondering over the very same question, wondering what I can carve for Easter. Normally, Easter reminds you of - an Easter basket, Easter eggs, an Easter Bunny, jelly beans, grass, carrots, a cross and the renaissance of Jesus. I tried adding few of the above to my carving

Ever since I tasted this special Chicken dish in a small restaurant in Mannagudda in Mangalore back in the late Eighties and early Nineties, I have been trying to find the recipe for this divine starter dish popularised by a culinary expert called Karunakar.
