Udupi: “I will participate in the Paryaya procession and Darbar and honour Pejawar Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji with the title Abhinava Sri Sudeendhra Teertha,” said Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Puttige Math. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Puttige Math here, on January 16.
“Pejawar Swamiji has invited me for the historic Paryaya celebrations in the Puttige Shaka of Teerthalli, he appreciated the foreign missions and asked me to participate. I will participate in the Paryaya celebrations which are historic; my disciples will question me if I will not participate in the Paryaya. We preach unity and if we are not united then a wrong message will be sent to the devotees,” he said.
Swamiji further said, “Pejawar Swamiji calls me as Manasaputhra and it is my responsibility to join the Paryaya celebrations. Pejawar Swamiji could be seen in a photograph with Shree Vidyamanya Teertha Swamiji and Sri Sudindra Teertha Swamiji, which shows the historic relationship of Puttige Math with Pejawar Math.”
While questioned about, other Swamiji’s boycotting the Paryaya if Puttige Swamiji joins the Paryaya Procession and Darbar. He said that he will participate in the Paryaya procession and greet the Paryaya Swamiji; “My Paryaya in 1992 was attended by all the Swamijis of eight maths, they even participated in the Lakshadeepothsava. I and Pejwar Swamiji have been the disciples of Sri Yadukula Teertha Swamiji which makes the relationship special,” he said.
Soon after the press meet, when Pejawar Swamiji was questioned, he said, “Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji has been invited to the Paryaya and has been asked to participate in the Paryaya like he had participated in the Kaniyoor Paryaya. But there was a difference of opinion among the eight Maths about allowing the Puttige Swamiji. I am prepared to make a compromise. The other Swamijis did not give their consent but are yet to decide arranging for Puttige Swamiji’s participation in Paryaya processions and also Darbar, necessary arrangements will be made for his participation.”
